Enamel Necklace Tutorial

I was originally inspired to make these lockets because of some I saw on Pinterest . They were from France and solid brass, but so very simple, and they carried a price tag of $98 each... I love really simple jewelry and these caught my eye. But ninety eight bucks? I thought for that it would at least be gold, but nope, they're solid brass. So I decided to make my own that very day. I ordered my vintage brass lockets on etsy for very little money. They're the same size as the French ones and faceted to boot. I also pulled out my old key collection and decided to paint them too. Here's how: First, assemble your supplies. You'll need nailpolish, and I find the thicker it is the harder it is to work with. A good mid-range brand like Sally Hansen is perfect. And you'll need some keys or lockets, or any other kind of pendant you'd like to enamel. You'll also need some rubbing alcohol or white vinegar and a cotton swab. White vinegar is the best clea...

Happy How-Tuesday! This week I found a yummy breakfast bread, an easy face scrub, and really cute necklaces to make! This breakfast bread is super healthy and easy to make! Check out the recipe here . Honey has so many amazing uses, and it really is great for your skin. A lovely and easy DIY face wash recipe can be found here . These thread wrapped necklaces are too cool and would look great in the hot colors of the season or a combination of neutral and neon. Here's the tutorial.

Felt Bead Necklaces!

Image
Last week we watched Johnny's two nieces for a few days in a row and instead of plopping them in front of the T.V. we did all kinds of arts and crafts! They had seen my craft room on a previous visit and thought it was the most magical place in the world, so I wasn't surprised when they asked to hang out in there when they arrived. They taught me how to finger knit and then asked me about my pile of roving, and I explained a bit about spinning yarn and felting. They seemed really interested in wet felting so we decided to make felt beads for necklaces. I only had purple/brown and blue/white but that worked out just fine. We tore off little pieces, got them wet and added a little soap, and rolled them in our hands until they became nice little beads. For the bigger ones we rolled them on a sushi mat for extra friction. We even made flat ones that looked a little like agate with the help of a felting needle.  They finished their beads the next day and did such a goo...

How-Tuesday #30!

Image
Hi everyone! It is How-Tuesday again! This week I have found for you a necklace tutorial, laundry detergent powder, and a recipe for Coca-Cola cupcakes! I have a necklace just like this in yellow with faux pearls instead of marbles and I paid like 40 bucks for it! Should have found this sooner... Here is the tutorial. I love making cleaners and such at home, and this powdered laundry soap looks much easier to make than the liquid version. Here is the recipe/tutorial. These cupcakes look amazing, and they are made with Coke to give the chocolate cake a richer flavor, and whipped cream frosting. I think I would like to try them with whipped marshmallow frosting some time. Check out the recipe here.

How-Tuesday #26!

Happy How-Tuesday! This week we have a designer-style necklace, homemade eye makeup remover, and a stylish tomato soup recipe. Enjoy! This is a great necklace, and it is a really well-done knock-off of a ridiculously expensive designer one. I love these kinds of things. Stick it to The Man here. I recently started wearing a bit of makeup when I go out on the town, and I am running out of remover. As soon as do I will give this recipe a try! Check it out here. And last, but certainly not least, is this ever-so-posh take on the traditional tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich combo. It looks delicious and I cannot wait to try it as soup weather will be upon us any day now. Here is the recipe.
