Tutorial: Felt bunny ears for Easter! Make a pompom crown with feltears, or a sweet headband with lop ears! What kind of bunny are you?

Image
I was invited this past Sunday to a wonderful pre-Easter brunch at my fabulous friend Alex's new little cottage home. Included in the invite was the phrase "Bonus points for bunny costumes." Now, most of you know I'm not one to pass up an opportunity to be in costume so I decided to make a smashing pair of bunny ears to wear to the fete, and they turned out so well I thought I'd write a little tutorial! These would be great to make with kids, as they could make the pom poms, and cut and color their own ears, though an adult should do the hot glue step. And as it turns out, Alex was the only other person who wore bunny ears, and hers were so different yet uncannily similar to mine that we had to partner up! Her version of lop-ears are very quick and easy, and endlessly charming, and you can scroll down to find the tutorial. So which kind of bunny are you? (By the way, no, this is not the cover of our indie-French-pop album. Model faces for the win.) ...

Hi everyone! Are you following me on Instagram yet? No? Why not?! (@ohthecuteness) I'm getting tired of ye olde Etsy shop these days and I think Instagram will be my new online venue for selling my one-of-a-kind items. I'm having a sale on my account tonight starting at 5 p.m. PST, and you can read how it works in my most recent Instagram post.  Also, if you don't have a smartphone fear not! You can still participate in all my sales by going to my actual Instagram webpage at http://www.instagram.com/ohthecuteness! Included in this sale will be my jumbo paper flower surprise balls pictured above. I have 9 left and each one is unique and super fun! Over 70 feet of German hand-cut multicolored crepe paper streamers are wrapped around 8 unique vintage-inspired prizes to create the stem and center of each flower, then I used recycled tissue paper to make the petals. Don't miss out!  Also included in this sale will be my new pompom flower bouquets. I...

Big News! I've finally decided to create a brand identity and new logo for Oh the Cuteness! Be on the lookout here and Etsy for new style changes!

Image
TADAAA! Guys, seriously, I am soooo excited to unveil my new branding identity! I'm complete crap with Photoshop, so my dear, sweet, wonderful, and endlessly patient boyfriend helped me (as in pretty much did everything) to create a new brand identity for Oh the Cuteness! It started with my rough sketch and color palette and evolved into the wonderful cohesive brand above! I can't wait until I have a chunk of time to sit down and implement all of these wonderful logos, fonts, buttons, and colors on the blog and shop. Not to mention new business cards, tags, labels, and a banner for the booth! But it will have to wait until this weekend as I've got a new retailer to make things for today, and a craft fair in Oakland this Saturday. If you happen to be in the area, be sure to stop by the Jack of All Trades market in Jack London Square and say hello! Also don't forget to go enter my Valentine's Day Giveaway! Three winners will be chosen soon so hurry!

Fancy Friday 15 - Cuteness Recap.

Image
Happy Fancy Friday! I've got company over to the house this week and getting fancy isn't really going to work today, so I thought I'd post some extra photos from Fancy Friday 12. Johnny was also a bit fancier than usual and we had a lot of fun using the timer on the camera to snap some goofy pictures because the evening light was so lovely. This was actually the day he was taking me to Shabu-Shabu for dinner for my birthday. What a bunch of goofballs! Anywho, I've got a totally awesome shoot planned for next week's post, so stay fancy!

Shop Update: New Owl Pincushions!

Image
A whole rainbow of new owl pincushions are for sale in the shop today! (I made a ton for the recent craft fair I sold at, more specifically I made one for each color of felt I ad on hand, and I couldn't resist the  fun conga line photo that has become my new blog banner. Such fun!) Coming soon are steampunk rings, a couple new amigurumi pieces, and tiny taxidermy! Also, I realized I miscalculated the cost of my enamel lockets and key necklaces so they're now about half the price that they were originally listed at , so if you've had your eye on one now's the time to get one!

Art Beat Bazaar Recap!

Image
Art Beat Bazaar was totally awesome! I think my booth display was cute, and it was filled out with an assortment of goods at lots of different price points, so I did really well! I debuted a couple new products to very positive reviews and made a ton of new owl pincushions to sell. I'll be doing a shop update this week with the new stuff so keep an eye out! Johnny came with me and manned the booth while I was wandering around photographing everything like I do when I sell at this event (I'm the official photographer!). There's a ton of photos of the other vendors and the on-stage entertainment on my flickr set (scroll to the bottom of the set to see them). Cori, one of the Art Beat organizers makes beautiful tile earrings and necklaces. Katie makes adorable plushies, clothing, and accessories! (See the little ice cream cone in the lower right? Yeah, he had to come home with me!) Brigette makes beautiful jewelry from reclaimed vintage pieces. ...

Sweet baby dress with a sophisticated color palette!

Image
I've recently become friends with a lovely lady who works at my chiropractor's office and she requested that I sew a cute little dress for her 18 month old girl. It's been a long time since I've sewn a piece of clothing from a pattern (I usually just wing it like when I did Me-Made-May a few years ago ), so I was delighted to do this because it worked as a great refresher for me. And with my new sewing machine it was so much easier than I thought it would be. We went through free patterns online and found the absolute cutest ones I've ever seen, then we decided on the above fabrics from my stash. So playful in pattern but very sophisticated in color, which I think makes it even more fun. And here's the finished product: I am soooo in love with this dress! The pattern I used was from Handmade Charlotte, and you can download the PDF for free here.  It's called the Merrymaker dress and it's very well written. Her original version has patte...

Fancy Friday #7

Image
Happy Fancy Friday! I had so much fun putting together this look! It's part flapper, part hipster, part librarian, and part Zooey Deschanel. I tried to do a lot of color play in every element. For the makeup I fell in love with this look and was able to recreate it very well, though I realized afterwards that my new bangs (Thanks Sissy! ) kind of obscure the look haha. There's pink on the lids and taupe in the creases from my Revlon pre-matched set and the blue highlight is Sephora shadow. For the lips I layered orange lip stain underneath a lipstick called "Rich Girl Red". (There's a really cool edit of this photo on my flickr here .) The orange on my lips picks up the orange on my little Son of a Sailor necklace, and the pink eyeshadow compliments the lucite flapper beads and beaded headband. There's also my locket with a pink chrysanthemum cabochon and blue jade bauble. I love love love this hairstyle! It looks fancy but took about 5 minutes ...
