Oh the Cuteness at the first ever DG Expo in San Francisco! A lovely new fabric and design expo, designed to foster smaller local manufacturers.

Image
I had a wonderful opportunity before the holiday rush hit to help  my friend Ivy, who works as a sales rep for Robert Kaufman Fabrics  (among others), with a new little trade show in San Francisco.  I've mentioned her before on here,  as the lovely lady who brings  dead stock fabric swatches for quilting  to my stitch & bitch group to give away. (Thanks Ivy!)  I think I've mentioned on here that someday I'd like to open a little brick and mortar shop to sell fabric, craft supplies, and handmade gifts, and getting to go to some trade shows in the industry has been so fun!  This was the first-ever DG Expo , and the response was so great that they are planning one for the east coast coming up and will definitely do the event annually here in the Bay Area. It wasn't s super huge event, but it was aimed at smaller independent manufacturers of fabric goods, and it was so fun to meet all the local designers who came to our booth. And here'...

New Retailer: JorCal Hat Company in Willow Glen, California is now carrying my Fascinators!

Image
Big news! All of the fascinators pictured above have been picked up for sale by JorCal Hat Company in lovely Willow Glen, CA , a beautiful little piece of San Jose. The owner of JorCal, Michele, is a lovely lady, and I am so happy and grateful that she wanted to carry my fascinator headbands. As you know, each one is one of a kind, so once it's gone it's gone. That being said, if you're in the area I highly recommend the entire main drag of Willow Glen for its restaurants and shopping, and JorCal in particular for their amazing fascinator selection ^_~.  But if you're not local, I have some  other models for sale in my etsy shop , and the one above on the top left is the last of the batch I haven't listed or sold because it is decidedly Christmas-y, though one of my top favorites. If you're interested in purchasing that one or having me make you a custom fascinator please feel free to email me at ohthecuteness@hotmail.com, otherwise I'll just save i...

Fancy Friday 15 - Cuteness Recap.

Image
Happy Fancy Friday! I've got company over to the house this week and getting fancy isn't really going to work today, so I thought I'd post some extra photos from Fancy Friday 12. Johnny was also a bit fancier than usual and we had a lot of fun using the timer on the camera to snap some goofy pictures because the evening light was so lovely. This was actually the day he was taking me to Shabu-Shabu for dinner for my birthday. What a bunch of goofballs! Anywho, I've got a totally awesome shoot planned for next week's post, so stay fancy!

Fancy Friday #13 - Win a feather hair extension!

Image
Happy Fancy Friday everyone! This week I've got a lovely outfit to show you, but first, I'm having another giveaway! In the above photo you'll notice I'm wearing a lovely feather and chain clip-in hair extension. I came upon a huge bin of these for sale at a local flea market for $3. I cannot believe how many there were! So I brought them home, sorted them out, and decided to give away any doubles on some Fancy Fridays here and there. And wait till you see what I'm giving away in October! Anywho, if you'd like to win the 12-inch nickel-free clip in extension pictured above (has red, black, turquoise, and purple feathers), then all you have to do is leave me a comment on this post giving me suggestions for things you'd like to see me try on Fancy Fridays, whether it's a link to a photo/tutorial, or just a style like "punk" for instance. Also if there's anything I've done for Fancy Friday that you'd like to see a tutorial for I...

Fancy Friday #12 - Vive La France

Happy Fancy Friday! This week I'm sporting a new dress I got for my birthday from my dear boyfriend! It's from  Pepperberry , which I  talked about/ showed off in this post too.  I paired it with some vintage accessories for a lovely 1940's Parisienne look. I love love love this dress! It fits like a glove and has the prettiest seaming and pleating on the hips. But enough about that, because the crowning glory of this outfit is the hat! ^_~ I picked up this little beauty in a local antique store and it's in really good shape. For my hair, I did the pouf bangs like last week (I've been doing this almost every day because my bangs are so long), and then I did 2 braided pigtails and clipped them up with butterfly clips. Since my hair is layered and choppy I had to use some bobby pins to tuck in pointy little ends that stuck out of the braids. For the makeup, I kept it super simple, with just a touch of pencil liner on my lash line and a little red l...

Fancy Friday #11 - Rosie the Riveter

Image
Happy Fancy Friday everyone! And bonus, FF now includes pants! Who says you have to wear dresses to be fancy? This look was 100% inspired by Rosie the Riveter. Red skinny jeans are from Wal-Mart of all places, don't ask me why I was there (11 bucks though!), which I rolled up for that retro look, and the shirt is from Target. I started with the hair for this look and built around it. My bangs are getting so long I can do my mini pompadour now! Just brush your bangs upward, gather, give a little twist, then fold back and push forward to make the poof as big as you want and secure with a couple clips. I find this style's easier to do while my bangs are still wet. I spray some hair spray on it and brush my hand up gently to tame any fly-aways. And I used a rolled-up vintage triangular head scarf tied in a knot to finish. The ends are tucked under behind my ears with bobby pins. I used the usual powder finish on my face with some rosy blush. I used a red lip st...

Fancy Friday #10, Plus a Great Makeup Tip!

Image
Happy Fancy Friday! This week my style is nature-inspired, but this time it's the darker side of the forest. I spent my Fancy Friday in Temescal Alley in Oakland where all the shops are super-hipstery and amazingly curated. My favorite of all of them is Crimson , which sells horticultural rarities and terrarium supplies. Do go see this place if you have the chance, it's amazing! Anywho, on to the fashion! Both the skirt and the top are pieces I snagged from my ever-stylish friend Alex at a clothing swap. I have mentioned her in posts time and time again on here, and you might be seeing much more of her in the near future (Ooooh secrets!). My Zooey bangs are already getting so long that I have to push them to the side most days, and I was in a bit of a rush so I just let my hair dry and put this great Vintage Rose Wrap headband I got at the Mid-State Fair last month. They're all handmade and they have belts too, go check out their website if you want one! ...

Fancy Friday #9

Image
Happy Fancy Friday! This week I got all dolled up for a trip to San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts. I went with a 1940's look, slightly updated with fun touches: Gah I loooove this dress! It's from this amazing company based in the UK called Pepperberry . I am in love with everything they sell and I wish there was a store here in the US because we need one so bad! All of their clothes are designed for busty women. Not plus size, mind you, just girls with bodacious boobs no matter your body type. I've always had a problem with things fitting my shape: if I buy plus-size clothes they fit my chest but I'm swimming in them everywhere else, and I love showing my hourglass figure. But normal clothes, unless they're stretchy, tend to pull or gap at my bust. But look at that! A chiffon shirt dress with buttons all the way down and not a gap to be found, and the belt is just for show since there's a lovely fitted waist band under it. If you take your me...
