Fancy Friday #11 - Rosie the Riveter

Image
Happy Fancy Friday everyone! And bonus, FF now includes pants! Who says you have to wear dresses to be fancy? This look was 100% inspired by Rosie the Riveter. Red skinny jeans are from Wal-Mart of all places, don't ask me why I was there (11 bucks though!), which I rolled up for that retro look, and the shirt is from Target. I started with the hair for this look and built around it. My bangs are getting so long I can do my mini pompadour now! Just brush your bangs upward, gather, give a little twist, then fold back and push forward to make the poof as big as you want and secure with a couple clips. I find this style's easier to do while my bangs are still wet. I spray some hair spray on it and brush my hand up gently to tame any fly-aways. And I used a rolled-up vintage triangular head scarf tied in a knot to finish. The ends are tucked under behind my ears with bobby pins. I used the usual powder finish on my face with some rosy blush. I used a red lip st...

I adore classic cars. My first car was an all-original 1965 Thunderbird and she was a beauty. It's a shame they're so expensive to keep up and drive, but the moment I can afford one again I'll use it as a weekend car. Paso Robles has an amazing cruise night and classic car show every year on Labor Day weekend, and when I happen to be in town for it I head downtown to the park with my dad. He used to restore classic cars when I was a kid and has an encyclopedic knowledge of them all, and I love hearing all the cool little things he knows about these beauties. I snapped these photos at the last event and they're finally processed so I thought I'd show them. There's a ton more on my flickr, here . And if anyone out there is interested in purchasing prints of these I'd be happy to oblige, just send me a message!

A Day in the Life...

This post was supposed to be written quite a while ago when the whole "Occupy Oakland" thing was still going on, but as I have siad I was going through a transitional phase and didn't get time to post it. I just had a really cool day and finally remembered to bring my camera along for the ride, and I got some neat pictures! You ever have one of those days when everything just kinda feels right and works out? This day was one of those days. It was a Saturday and I got up nice and early, did my usual morning routine except for the fact that my hair turned out unusually nice for a change. Must have been because it was dry and warm out (my hair goes all poofy when it's wet outside), and it probably helped that I was relatively awake when I did it. I was feeling pretty good so I decided to try my hand at putting on some makeup, including eyeliner, which usually makes me look like a retarded raccoon. But today was a good day! So I took pictures to document the fa...
