Shop Update: New lacy newborn baby bonnets and glitzy adult bike beanies are up for sale in my Etsy shop!

Image
There's some seriously cute crocheted goodness up on my Etsy shop right now! Look at how adorable this little lady is, and she's modeling one of my Victorian-inspired baby bonnets that I just listed. Thank you so much to Nadine form Birdy Boutique Photography for taking this shot! I originally made a bunch of these bonnets for a craft fair, but the sprinklers came on and I had to pack it in! If you're not following me on Instagram yet then you're missing out, as I did a presale of these with free shipping before I listed them on Etsy! Come find me @ohthecuteness if you want in on future sales! Also up in the shop are my crocheted bike beanies: I wrote this pattern myself specifically for people who ride bikes. They fit really nicely under a bike helmet and they're very squishy and stretchy. The yarns have little gold filaments in them too for some extra sparkle! There's only one Autumn colored one left so don't miss out!

Enamel Necklace Tutorial

Image
I was originally inspired to make these lockets because of some I saw on Pinterest . They were from France and solid brass, but so very simple, and they carried a price tag of $98 each... I love really simple jewelry and these caught my eye. But ninety eight bucks? I thought for that it would at least be gold, but nope, they're solid brass. So I decided to make my own that very day. I ordered my vintage brass lockets on etsy for very little money. They're the same size as the French ones and faceted to boot. I also pulled out my old key collection and decided to paint them too. Here's how: First, assemble your supplies. You'll need nailpolish, and I find the thicker it is the harder it is to work with. A good mid-range brand like Sally Hansen is perfect. And you'll need some keys or lockets, or any other kind of pendant you'd like to enamel. You'll also need some rubbing alcohol or white vinegar and a cotton swab. White vinegar is the best clea...

Fancy Friday #8

Image
Happy Fancy Friday! I'm in love with an 80's-inspired look I tried this week: The cute little headband was made by Goody. I got a haircut recently and am still getting used to styling it. I've also overdyed my black up to red which makes it look ombre as it grows out (Fun!). Today I used my Damage Control spray from Redkin, blew it straight, flat ironed it, and added texturizing paste through the tips, a method inspired by this look . I did a lot of black and gold jewelry inspired by the headband's bow: my minuscule black bow necklace is from Forever 21, and I wore the daily bunting necklace in this post and my American Eagle Outfitters gold chevron necklace in this one .  This dress is from Target and is so fun, bright, flirty, and short that I feel like a rockstar! I paired it with plain black opaque tights, a chevron belt from Ann Taylor Loft, and my black oxford heels seen in this post.  These shoes are actually incredibly comfortable and I can...

New Art!

Image
Dennis was joking with me the other day about the way I don't like to play video games much anymore because I feel like I could be doing something more productive, yet I'll sit on Pinterest forever getting "inspiration" and not doing much of anything with it. Well, he has a point I must say, so I've decided that I'm going to try to use the tutorials and such I find via my new favorite website as much as possible. The painting above that I made this past week for my bedroom may look familiar to some of you. I found the tutorial via Pinterest , and also discovered a fantastic blog that I'm not sure how I missed called A Beautiful Mess. The basic idea is you find an old painting at a yard sale or thrift store to use as the base for your new text-based art. I found this lovely lady for two dollars at the East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse  while hanging out with Dennis and my friend Carolyn . The Depot is just like a thrift store but they sell things...

Super Sweet Custom Order...

Image
I love doing custom orders. Brainstorming with customers, getting to make special items and go a little over the top compared to what I normally do... It feels great. On the " Hire Me " page I have a little blurb about custom orders, and recently I got a few for the Moustache Soaps I listed in the shop. My favorite one was six special soaps as favors for this little guy's birthday party: That's Ash, and his mummy told me he's obsessed with orange (the fruit as well as the color), and moustaches! The sweet invitations were done for her at Brown Paper Goods on etsy. With that as inspiration it was easy: I scented the soaps with tangerine and vanilla essential oils and packaged them in little kraft boxes with orange and white baker's twine: So yay! Another nice little item to add to my portfolio of custom work! If you'd like me to make something for you, send me an e-mail at ohthecuteness@hotmail.com!
