Tutorial: Felt bunny ears for Easter! Make a pompom crown with feltears, or a sweet headband with lop ears! What kind of bunny are you?

Image
I was invited this past Sunday to a wonderful pre-Easter brunch at my fabulous friend Alex's new little cottage home. Included in the invite was the phrase "Bonus points for bunny costumes." Now, most of you know I'm not one to pass up an opportunity to be in costume so I decided to make a smashing pair of bunny ears to wear to the fete, and they turned out so well I thought I'd write a little tutorial! These would be great to make with kids, as they could make the pom poms, and cut and color their own ears, though an adult should do the hot glue step. And as it turns out, Alex was the only other person who wore bunny ears, and hers were so different yet uncannily similar to mine that we had to partner up! Her version of lop-ears are very quick and easy, and endlessly charming, and you can scroll down to find the tutorial. So which kind of bunny are you? (By the way, no, this is not the cover of our indie-French-pop album. Model faces for the win.) ...

Pattern testers needed for my new knitting pattern!

Image
Well guys, I did it! I learned how to knit in 2009 and since then it's been an interesting ride. I made my first knitted piece, a sweater, in one month for Me-Made-May . In between then and now I've made a few cute knitted pieces   like these , and one sock (the second one is coming, I swear), and I've written one simple cowl pattern which I posted here for free . And now I've gotten confident enough with my knitting skills to create a little baby cardigan pattern! This newborn-size sweater (With real vintage buttons!) is made from Madelinetosh's Tosh Merino Light in Badlands . It's a fingering-weight superwash yarn and I love it so much! Johnny got me a gift certificate to one of my favorite local yarn shops and he helped me pick this one out with our hypothetical someday baby in mind. He also helped me look for a pattern, but we couldn't find one that had all the elements we wanted. The vision was for this to look like a little old man's sweat...

Emo the Sad Amigurumi Sheep.

Image
Meet Emo the sad sheep. No one really knows why he's sad. He has plenty of friends and a bitchin' sweater, plus all the tissues he could ever need. And yet there he is, always in a bad mood. Maybe he just needs a hug? I love this little guy! I actually finished him quite a while ago but dragged my feet on his little tissue box, which is actually a box from a Japanese tissue-themed eraser (they make toilet paper ones too lol), that I filled with a folded up tissue instead. He didn't take a super long time to crochet, but seaming him together was a nightmare! He only sits about 5 inches tall, and I love the way his face is sculpted. He's made from acrylic yarns, mostly good old Red Heart, plus some button eyes and a single glass teardrop. He's pretty true to the original from this Japanese craft book, ISBN4-309-26572-3: See him hiding in the background on the upper right corner of the table? Poor Emo. Maybe he's sad because I want to sell him, ...

More Fun With Nailpolish!

Image
My nail polish necklace post inspired me to take a look at what other people are doing with nail polish these days, and I found some fun stuff! Here's my favorites:   Painting your shoes with nail polish!   A video tutorial for nailpolish-painted belts!   Jazzing up plain bobby pins with nail polish! And other key necklaces using nail polish!

Another Happy Customer

Image
These sweet little baby bibs were custom-made for Johnny's sister. I made her baby boy one for Christmas and she liked it so much that she ordered more! I made a batch of these once before for craft fairs, and you can see them here.  They never made it to Etsy because they all sold! I have the other 4 bibs from this round (I have to cut them out in pairs) waiting to be finished. If you know you want one send me an email & I can reserve them for you, otherwise it might be a while until they are finished and up on the shop. I've got two very large crochet projects I'm working on at the moment, and both are custom orders for weddings so they have strict time constraints! But more on those later ^_^!

Gratuitous Kitten Post

Image
Hi all! I'm spending the week in Tahoe on a Woodcut Maps work retreat, so I thought I'd share the photos I took of the new workshop kitten when my bosses first found her as filler and also because she is the best little kitten ever! Oh Bandit, how I love thee. These were taken when Cat and Gabe first got her from a friend who found her on the street. She's big, fat, happy, and healthy now, and the most loving kitten I've ever met. I think she knows how lucky she is to have a good home now and is super thankful for it.

Holy Pink Hair Batman!

Image
Yup, I've done it again... Six hours of bleaching and dying at my wonderful sister's salon. It's washed up a bit from the initial color to a really lovely shade of pastel pink, which is what we were going for. I LOVE it. Johnny's warming up to it haha. It's going to be a lot of upkeep but I think it's going to stay for a while. Anyone have any really good recipes for home made conditioner? I'm going through the stuff like crazy!

Strawberry Malt Ball Cake!

Image
This year my birthday (back in August) happened to land on a Tuesday which is the day my Stitch & Bitch group usually meets so I decided to make a special, if somewhat outrageous, cake to share with everyone. I'd seen this malt ball cake  from Inspired by Charm on Pinterest before and I just couldn't resist. (Click the link for the full recipe and her cute tutorial for a mini bunting!)  It's a really easy recipe because it uses a boxed strawberry cake mix, which was surprisingly good. I also used this as an opportunity for trying a new method for getting the cake to rise evenly while baking. You cut pieces of thick fabric, like an old kitchen towel, into strips wide and long enough to wrap around the sides of your cake pan, then soak them in cold water, wring them out gently, and use a safety pin to keep them in pace around the outside, then bake as usual. It keeps the edges from cooking too fast and you don't have to trim a dome off the tops, which means no...
