A lovely antique jeweler's bench is finally in the craft room!

Image
If you remember in my big craft room reveal post I mentioned that there was one piece of furniture missing. It's finally here and all set up, and I've used it quite a bit. It's an antique jeweler's bench that my dad had in his office for his watch repair business. He's been able to retire from that recently and I snatched it up! It's got amazing storage capacity and is so awesome. I'd like to clean it up and paint it one of these days, and possibly put a new top on it, but for now it's working just fine. Check it out: Plenty of storage, and the pad that pulls out is to catch things when you drop them! Changed my life.  Oodles of graduated drawers on the side keep all my jewelry and steampunk supplies in order. One of my favorite features is that not only does it have a few shelves inside the leg for more storage, but it has this built in outlet at the front. This makes it so much easier for me to work with my hot glue gun, dremel, or s...

Felt Bead Necklaces!

Image
Last week we watched Johnny's two nieces for a few days in a row and instead of plopping them in front of the T.V. we did all kinds of arts and crafts! They had seen my craft room on a previous visit and thought it was the most magical place in the world, so I wasn't surprised when they asked to hang out in there when they arrived. They taught me how to finger knit and then asked me about my pile of roving, and I explained a bit about spinning yarn and felting. They seemed really interested in wet felting so we decided to make felt beads for necklaces. I only had purple/brown and blue/white but that worked out just fine. We tore off little pieces, got them wet and added a little soap, and rolled them in our hands until they became nice little beads. For the bigger ones we rolled them on a sushi mat for extra friction. We even made flat ones that looked a little like agate with the help of a felting needle.  They finished their beads the next day and did such a goo...

Shop Update!

Image
Happy Wednesday everyone! There are a bunch of new sets of fancy stitch markers up for sale in my Etsy shop, as well as some fun little crayon necklaces, so please stop by and check them all out!

New year, new outlook, new stuff.

Hi all! The shop was updated a few days ago with some more owl pincushions and just a couple of hipster ones, some jewelry, soap, etc., and since it's the new year and I always try to do a purge of unnecessary items from the house, there's a ton of random supplies in there too, all new and all very inexpensive! Hope you find something you like!

How-Tuesday #30!

Image
Hi everyone! It is How-Tuesday again! This week I have found for you a necklace tutorial, laundry detergent powder, and a recipe for Coca-Cola cupcakes! I have a necklace just like this in yellow with faux pearls instead of marbles and I paid like 40 bucks for it! Should have found this sooner... Here is the tutorial. I love making cleaners and such at home, and this powdered laundry soap looks much easier to make than the liquid version. Here is the recipe/tutorial. These cupcakes look amazing, and they are made with Coke to give the chocolate cake a richer flavor, and whipped cream frosting. I think I would like to try them with whipped marshmallow frosting some time. Check out the recipe here.

How-Tuesday #26!

Happy How-Tuesday! This week we have a designer-style necklace, homemade eye makeup remover, and a stylish tomato soup recipe. Enjoy! This is a great necklace, and it is a really well-done knock-off of a ridiculously expensive designer one. I love these kinds of things. Stick it to The Man here. I recently started wearing a bit of makeup when I go out on the town, and I am running out of remover. As soon as do I will give this recipe a try! Check it out here. And last, but certainly not least, is this ever-so-posh take on the traditional tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich combo. It looks delicious and I cannot wait to try it as soup weather will be upon us any day now. Here is the recipe.

How-Tuesday #25!

Hi all! I was out of town for last weeks How-Tuesday but here we go for this week! We have leather lanyards, a beautiful bouquet, and yet another peanut butter pie recipe! Everyone has probably made those bright plastic lanyards at some point in their childhood. Now you can make a grown-up version! Here is the great tutorial. I love these wedding bouquets made from vintage up-cycled brooches. Check out the how-to here. I think I already posted a peanut butter pie recipe in the early days of How-Tuesday. But really, can you ever have too many peanut butter pie options? One day I will make a bunch of different ones and see which is the best, even though all of them have been amazing thus far. Here is the recipe.

Bead Sale!

Image
Hey everyone! I just listed close to 100 little lots of beads over on my etsy shop . Some of you might remember when I was selling lots of beads on another shop, and then I closed it because I decided I would rather make jewelry with what I had left. But when I was making earrings and such for the craft fair I sold at I realized that I just have way too many. Seriously. Like, more than I could ever use up in my lifetime. So it is time for a good old Destash Bash at Oh the Cuteness! I am starting with the beads, but my fabric shelf is going to get a good going-over too, along with other miscellaneous supplies. I listed the beads for much cheaper than they used to be in The Slug and Lettuce because I just want them gone! Hope there is something special waiting for you. Oh, also I photographed a bunch of new owl pincushions (along with some other bits and bobs) yesterday, just need to do some light editing and they will be listed this week! Woot!
