Day Four!

Well, Sis left early thismorning and I had the day off to do some chores and errands, but I spent a good chunk of the day sewing and taking pictures. However, I still have not completely finished the purse or the cape, lol. But look what I did sew today:


Today's outfit is entirely new, created thismorning whilst still in my pj's. I got the lovely yellow striped jersey as a remnant from StoneMountain & Daughter, and I still have a bunch left to make more stuff with. And I also took pictures as I was making the shirt which I will turn into a how-to-make-a-t-shirt-photo-tutorial in the next few days.



The skirt has been nudging the top of my to-do list since I found about 2 or more yards of it in a thrift store last year. I think this is probably my favorite vintage fabric I have ever found, and it has been turned into my new favorite skirt. All I did was cut off about 10 inches on the top of the fabric, turned the pinked edge over and secured it with a zig-zag stitch, folded that over about 1 1/4 inches and sewed it close to the edge, then threaded elastic into the channel, sewed the ends together, and closed off the hole. I didn't even bother hemming the bottom edge since it was finished so nicely.






I am not sure what this fabric was meant to be in its previous life. Perhaps curtains, or a dust ruffle for a bed, or maybe even a skirt panel. All I know is that this is my best outfit yet, and I am totally geared up to try something harder now, like some clothes that are fitted.

    I was staring at the pattern on the skirt trying to figure out what they are - then it came to me - they are beets! So perhaps it was meant to be kitchen curtain material??

    Anyway, it makes an really cute skirt - it suits you very well.

    hey...that skirt would look great with the pinnifor you saw at anthro...( the one you want to make)...and a blue or green streachy top with 3/4 sleeves ...

Well, I thought since the produce bag was something I just made up real quick I should post the pattern. I am sure there are way better ones out there, but most of them end up decreasing at the end to get a smaller opening, but I wanted mine large so leafy stuff that I buy in multiple little bunches could poke out, like baby broccoli or bok choy. So here is the pattern, just in case you want to make a couple as well. Materials: 1 skein Lion Brand Organic Cotton Yarn (#680), or similar worsted weight yarn Size I-9 Crochet Hook Little scrap of fabric (optional) Rnd 1: Begin with an adjustable loop , and crochet 12 double crochet (dc) into the loop and pull tight. Rnd 2: *Chain 7, skip 1 dc and slip stitch in next dc.* Repeat around. It should look like a little flower: Rnd 3: Chain 7, Slip stitch (slst) into 4th chain (ch) of round 2. For those of you who would like to make one of the little fast baskets but don't need the entire tutorial , here is the pattern, plain and simple. This is also good to look at after you have completed the tutorial, so you can see what a pattern for in-the-round crochet looks like. Materials: H hook (5.0mm) Ball of Sugar and Cream worsted weight cotton yarn in Natural A small amount of colored yarn or hemp twine for the stripe Abbreviations: st - stitch slst - slip stitch ch - chain dc - double crochet Round 1: Begin with the adjustable loop in the natural yarn. Ch 2 (counts as first dc), and crochet 11 more dc into the loop. Join to beginning ch with a slst. (12 dc) Round 2: Ch 2. 2 dc in each stitch around, join with a slst. (24 dc) Round 3: Ch 2. *1 dc in next st, 2dc in next. Repeat from * around, join with a slst. (36 dc) Round 4: Ch 2. *1 dc in next 2 st, 2 dc in next. Repeat from * around, join with a slst. A Mug Cozy Tutorial

Another year is over-and-done-with and a bright, shiny new one is ready to go. I can't wait! I always make really broad new year's resolutions so that I usually accomplish at least one. One thing I want to make sure to do this coming year is more giving on ye olde blog. I'm going to post more free tutorials and patterns, (I've been hoarding a few in hopes of selling them in my etsy store but I figure it's way more fun to have people stop by my blog to see them for free instead!) and I want to do a couple giveaways here and there. I feel silly sometimes because every year I mean to do a "blogiverssary" post and give something away in celebration, but I end up missing it every time. Come this next July my blog will be 4 and darn it I'm going to celebrate! This thing is by far the longest running project I've ever done and I love it so much!
