Fancy Friday 15 - Cuteness Recap.

Image
Happy Fancy Friday! I've got company over to the house this week and getting fancy isn't really going to work today, so I thought I'd post some extra photos from Fancy Friday 12. Johnny was also a bit fancier than usual and we had a lot of fun using the timer on the camera to snap some goofy pictures because the evening light was so lovely. This was actually the day he was taking me to Shabu-Shabu for dinner for my birthday. What a bunch of goofballs! Anywho, I've got a totally awesome shoot planned for next week's post, so stay fancy!

Fancy Friday 14 - Boho Chic

Image
Happy Fancy Friday! Sorry this post is later in the day than usual, but hey it's still Friday! Just a quick reminder that my giveaway is still running! I'm giving away a clip-in feather hair extension, all you have to do is go to Fancy Friday 13 and leave a comment! Anywho, one of the readers suggested I do my interpretation of a boho look. For Fancy Friday #6 I did a nature-inspired look that was going that direction, and this look feels very similar to me (Aka comfy!). Hope you like it Karen! The dress was originally from Anthropologie, but I got it and the great floral tights from a clothing swap with my friends. The little knit vest is from Old Navy. For my makeup, I did the usual powder plus a more copper-toned blush. On my eyes I did only white eyeliner on the inner bottom rims and around the top lash line, plus  little flick at the outer edge and I blended the line out gently with a shadow brush. My lips are my favorite Revlon lip stain in "Honey...

Sweet baby dress with a sophisticated color palette!

I've recently become friends with a lovely lady who works at my chiropractor's office and she requested that I sew a cute little dress for her 18 month old girl. It's been a long time since I've sewn a piece of clothing from a pattern (I usually just wing it like when I did Me-Made-May a few years ago ), so I was delighted to do this because it worked as a great refresher for me. And with my new sewing machine it was so much easier than I thought it would be. We went through free patterns online and found the absolute cutest ones I've ever seen, then we decided on the above fabrics from my stash. So playful in pattern but very sophisticated in color, which I think makes it even more fun. And here's the finished product: I am soooo in love with this dress! The pattern I used was from Handmade Charlotte, and you can download the PDF for free here.  It's called the Merrymaker dress and it's very well written. Her original version has patte...

Fancy Friday #12 - Vive La France

Happy Fancy Friday! This week I'm sporting a new dress I got for my birthday from my dear boyfriend! It's from  Pepperberry , which I  talked about/ showed off in this post too.  I paired it with some vintage accessories for a lovely 1940's Parisienne look. I love love love this dress! It fits like a glove and has the prettiest seaming and pleating on the hips. But enough about that, because the crowning glory of this outfit is the hat! ^_~ I picked up this little beauty in a local antique store and it's in really good shape. For my hair, I did the pouf bangs like last week (I've been doing this almost every day because my bangs are so long), and then I did 2 braided pigtails and clipped them up with butterfly clips. Since my hair is layered and choppy I had to use some bobby pins to tuck in pointy little ends that stuck out of the braids. For the makeup, I kept it super simple, with just a touch of pencil liner on my lash line and a little red l...

Fancy Friday #9

Happy Fancy Friday! This week I got all dolled up for a trip to San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts. I went with a 1940's look, slightly updated with fun touches: Gah I loooove this dress! It's from this amazing company based in the UK called Pepperberry . I am in love with everything they sell and I wish there was a store here in the US because we need one so bad! All of their clothes are designed for busty women. Not plus size, mind you, just girls with bodacious boobs no matter your body type. I've always had a problem with things fitting my shape: if I buy plus-size clothes they fit my chest but I'm swimming in them everywhere else, and I love showing my hourglass figure. But normal clothes, unless they're stretchy, tend to pull or gap at my bust. But look at that! A chiffon shirt dress with buttons all the way down and not a gap to be found, and the belt is just for show since there's a lovely fitted waist band under it. If you take your me...

Fancy Friday #7

Happy Fancy Friday! I had so much fun putting together this look! It's part flapper, part hipster, part librarian, and part Zooey Deschanel. I tried to do a lot of color play in every element. For the makeup I fell in love with this look and was able to recreate it very well, though I realized afterwards that my new bangs (Thanks Sissy! ) kind of obscure the look haha. There's pink on the lids and taupe in the creases from my Revlon pre-matched set and the blue highlight is Sephora shadow. For the lips I layered orange lip stain underneath a lipstick called "Rich Girl Red". (There's a really cool edit of this photo on my flickr here .) The orange on my lips picks up the orange on my little Son of a Sailor necklace, and the pink eyeshadow compliments the lucite flapper beads and beaded headband. There's also my locket with a pink chrysanthemum cabochon and blue jade bauble. I love love love this hairstyle! It looks fancy but took about 5 minutes ...

Fancy Friday #6

Ah Fancy Friday. This week I had the urge to do some gardening on Friday, so my outfit turned out to have a very flower-child vibe to me. Super posh gardening gloves no? They're actually jersey over-the-elbow gloves I bought from Daiso for $1.50 (Everything in Daiso is $1.50, you should check them out!), and I just scrunched them down.  I wanted to go a little more natural with the makeup, while still keeping the hippy vibe, so I got some white eyeliner and lined the inner rims of my eyes, then used dark brown liner and mascara and swept on a little copper on my lids. A slightly darker powder and a bronzier blush helped keep the palette neutral, and the Revlon lip stain is a nude-pink called Honey.  Accessories! The hat is my all-time favorite sunhat, found at Target ages ago. I added the sheer pink ribbon. I left my hair to dry naturally after adding a little leave-in conditioner and scrunching it to increase the waviness. The single braid is held with a ...

How-Tuesday #29!

Happy How-Tuesday! This week we have a shift dress pattern, a video tutorial for turbands, and a chicken pot pie recipe! Oh Martha, how I love thee. I love that she has been doing more fashion-y stuff lately, and this dress is lovely and super-duper easy to make. Check out the video/tutorial here. Turbands are a recent blip on my fashion radar and I am very interested to see if I can pull the look off one of these days. This sweet little video tutorial has 3 different variations and they look nice and easy, so someday soon I will give them a go. Watch the video here. This pot pie recipe has me drooling, I cannot wait to try it! Try it for yourself here.

How-Tuesday #28!

Its How-Tuesday again! This week I have a lovely and easy to make dress, paper roses, and a single-serving peanut butter cake! This dress reminds me a bit of the 15-Minute Babydoll Dress Tutorial I posted a while ago. Main difference: Pockets! Heck yes! Check out the tutorial here. I love these rolled paper flowers and I want to make a bunch to decorate the house. They look super easy to make too. The photo tutorial can be found here. My love of peanut butter in desserts is no secret around here. I love this little cake because it takes all of a minute to make in the microwave and it is single serving so I will not go overboard and eat an entire peanut butter confection all by myself! Here is the recipe.

An Inspiring Vacation.

I recently got to visit my parents in my home town for Fathers Day weekend, and I had a lovely time. My family always makes me feel better about, well, everything. This particular trip was really great because I got a lot of encouragement when it comes to attaining my goals for the future. Oh, and some feather hair extensions, lol. My lovely  sister always does my hair when I go to visit, and she always makes me feel fabulous! If anyone down on the central coast is looking for a great hair stylist I suggest you look her up. Aura at Salon 544.  I mean, look at how cute she is! She is a genius when it comes to hair and a color specialist too. I would look like such a derp if it wasn't for her lol. Mom and dad were happy to see me, and I grabbed these pics of them being goofballs (Which is hard because mom never used to let me take her picture, but she is so pretty!): Anywho, mom and I went to downtown Paso for one of the days I was there and we went to our f...
