Shop Update: Herb and Spice Trivets, Vintage Button Art Pieces, and DIY Yarn Bombing Kits!

Image
There's a ton of new cute items up for sale in my Etsy shop this week! These herb and spice filled trivets, which I talked about making for a craft fair , are finally listed in the shop! As are these wonderful vintage button art pieces I made. I've been collecting vintage buttons my entire life and I'm so happy to have these special ones out of the jars and on display! The one in the top middle is sold, and the center one is mine, but the rest are in the shop waiting for new homes! I've also listed a framing option for them if you want yours to arrive nicely framed! And lastly, I've created a new version of my Yarn Bombing Kit that comes without a knitted piece included , for those of you who want to make your own and ship it off to a friend! Happy shopping! ^_^

There's some exciting new products up for sale in my Etsy shop! Firstly, there's my Yarn Bombing Kits, pictured above! They've been in the works for quite some time, and I'm super excited to finally release them! They come with everything you need to install a unique yarn bomb and it all comes shipped in a drawstring bag. How fun would it be to get one of these in the mail?! Just in time for Mother's Day I've listed my pom pom flowers: beautiful handmade wool pompoms in specially chosen colors on white twig stems . They're only $3 a blossom so you can select colors and sizes from a drop-down menu and build your own bouquets! Also up for sale are some beautiful jumbo paper flower surprise balls! Filled with 9 vintage and vintage-inspired prizes, they are made from over 70 feet of hand-cut multicolored crepe paper streamers and recycled tissue paper. Each one is unique, and has a stem which also contains a prize so they're fun to gi...

Yarn everywhere! My spoils from a fantastic de-stash bash and a proposed trade?

Image
My friend and knitting guru Suzanne had a birthday party recently that carried the theme of "Share Your Craft", and she teamed up with another Stitch 'n Bitch member to also make it a de-stash party. I brought a bag of fabric and miscellaneous crafting goodies to give, but I had no idea how much other people were bringing! Needless to say, I came home with a LOT of yarn, fabric, and knitting needles! I don't have any plans for the ones above, but I'd love some one-skein project ideas from you guys! The big pile of Fjord is going to become a lap blanket for Johnny, and I'm not sure what I'll do with the white and cream yarns yet. I also came home with these cute fabrics and colorful needles! But, I cleaned out my own needles and realized I have an extra pair of 11's and 3's, and I was wondering if anyone out in internet-land would fancy a trade? I really need a needle gauge, any kind will do! Since I have all these vintage plastic ...

New Retailer: JorCal Hat Company in Willow Glen, California is now carrying my Fascinators!

Image
Big news! All of the fascinators pictured above have been picked up for sale by JorCal Hat Company in lovely Willow Glen, CA , a beautiful little piece of San Jose. The owner of JorCal, Michele, is a lovely lady, and I am so happy and grateful that she wanted to carry my fascinator headbands. As you know, each one is one of a kind, so once it's gone it's gone. That being said, if you're in the area I highly recommend the entire main drag of Willow Glen for its restaurants and shopping, and JorCal in particular for their amazing fascinator selection ^_~.  But if you're not local, I have some  other models for sale in my etsy shop , and the one above on the top left is the last of the batch I haven't listed or sold because it is decidedly Christmas-y, though one of my top favorites. If you're interested in purchasing that one or having me make you a custom fascinator please feel free to email me at ohthecuteness@hotmail.com, otherwise I'll just save i...

Tutorial: How to turn a vintage tin dollhouse into a caddy to hide your printer! The obsession with tiny houses continues...

Image
Hello everyone, it's time for my first project of the new year! A little tutorial on how to convert a vintage tin dollhouse into a rotating caddy that hides your printer and printing supplies! I've always wanted one of these dollhouses, ever since I saw them in antique shops with my mom as a kid. Now when I see them in antique shops they're always over $40 and never in the greatest shape. Well my friends, the dollhouse gods smiled on me in the new year, as I found this little 1970's beauty at the Depot for Creative Reuse in Oakland for about $20! And it had a ton of the original furniture with it too! It's missing its door and its chimney, but I'm sure I can make some suitable replacements out of cardstock someday. She's got one gash on the edge of the roof, and was absolutely filthy when I brought her home, but a little elbow grease made her shine. I took a look in my office and decided that if it was going to live there, it would have to se...

Merry Christmas! A cozy little Christmas home tour for you all!

Image
Hi everyone! Well, once again the holiday season has thoroughly kicked my butt, but this year I kicked some right back! I know I haven't updated the blog in a good while except to advertise sales and such (Although if you follow my instagram  @ohthecuteness then you've seen what I've been up to!), but I have some fun new tutorials and crochet patterns coming up in the new year! Also all of the craft fairs I did this year went so well that I didn't have much left over to list online, which totally blew me away! As soon as Halloween rolled around Johnny and I were so consumed by decorating that I didn't get to post anything, and as soon as Halloween came down Christmas went up, and by then I was consumed with making things for the holiday fairs as well as family functions. I've really been enjoying the lull for the past week and found time to take some nice photos of the house all decked out for Christmas. I think I might keep the photos of Halloween till next yea...

Fancy Friday 15 - Cuteness Recap.

Image
Happy Fancy Friday! I've got company over to the house this week and getting fancy isn't really going to work today, so I thought I'd post some extra photos from Fancy Friday 12. Johnny was also a bit fancier than usual and we had a lot of fun using the timer on the camera to snap some goofy pictures because the evening light was so lovely. This was actually the day he was taking me to Shabu-Shabu for dinner for my birthday. What a bunch of goofballs! Anywho, I've got a totally awesome shoot planned for next week's post, so stay fancy!

Pattern testers needed for my new knitting pattern!

Image
Well guys, I did it! I learned how to knit in 2009 and since then it's been an interesting ride. I made my first knitted piece, a sweater, in one month for Me-Made-May . In between then and now I've made a few cute knitted pieces   like these , and one sock (the second one is coming, I swear), and I've written one simple cowl pattern which I posted here for free . And now I've gotten confident enough with my knitting skills to create a little baby cardigan pattern! This newborn-size sweater (With real vintage buttons!) is made from Madelinetosh's Tosh Merino Light in Badlands . It's a fingering-weight superwash yarn and I love it so much! Johnny got me a gift certificate to one of my favorite local yarn shops and he helped me pick this one out with our hypothetical someday baby in mind. He also helped me look for a pattern, but we couldn't find one that had all the elements we wanted. The vision was for this to look like a little old man's sweat...
