<br />
Hello friends! What a crazy year this has been! But finally, as of yesterday, my big dream has a chance of becoming a reality! <a href="http://igg.me/at/theblacksquirrel" target="_blank">We launched our Indiegogo campaign</a> to fund the creation of a brick and mortar and online fabric, yarn, and craft supply boutique in Oakland, CA! We're off to a great start but we need lots of help getting the word out about it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
I built this campaign over the past year with practically no resources, except all my lovely crafty friends. Likewise, I have no money to put into advertising, but I'm not worried about that because the crafting community has always been such a tight knit and loving one! If you've been a follower of Oh the Cuteness and enjoyed our free patterns and DIYs then you'll be happy to know we're really upping our game for The Black Squirrel's blog. I've learned a lot from my decade of blogging on this site and if I can manage to open this new physical shop, I'll be able to devote so much more time to writing new patterns and creating lovely posts. It's going to open up a whole new world of possibilities for both the online and local crafting communities, which is the most important goal.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">And this is my concept for the classroom space, a very important part of the shop.</td></tr>

<br />
So please, even if you can't contribute monetarily (though we have so many awesome prizes to choose from that I bet you'll want to once you have a look), please take a few minutes to share our campaign wherever you can! Turns out Indiegogo uses an algorithm to decide which campaigns get featured in their newsletter and on their main page by how popular the campaigns are across social media, and by how many visitors they get. So please post it to your Facebook, Twitter, Goole Plus, and Pinterest accounts as much as you can!Chase Clarkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09975617373410577449noreply@blogger.com0Oakland, CA, USA37.8043637 -122.271113737.603596200000005 -122.5938372 38.0051312 -121.9483902tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14992202.post-36000314759447160232015-01-03T10:16:00.001-08:002015-01-03T10:33:04.556-08:00Big changes are happening at Oh the Cuteness! A new shop, a new location, and a new format are in the works.Hi everyone! I can't believe it's been so long since I've posted here, but I have a very good excuse this time that I think you will all be very excited about. Big changes are happening and big plans are being made!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
First of all, I'm no longer living in Campbell (And yes, this means I had to disassemble and box up <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2013/06/my-new-craft-room.html">the amazing craft room</a>... Le sigh.). At the moment I've got everything I own except for the essentials put in a storage pod, and I've spent the holidays with my mom and dad, and the new year with my sister, and now I'm planning on returning to my beautiful city of Oakland to finally start working on my big dream...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikXNHMiSyL8o7pvsVa1ij4dbfSn8btSqKtvZWfUjzcSRR-r4QeC3XOVvAah4p4ffS0wOogdqX09puw4JzBH_6E2YlH9hymFM7DY4NUHTfdqdHhtZ2avqIpBSJUgLtb5pFYbhWK/s1600/TBSLogogp.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikXNHMiSyL8o7pvsVa1ij4dbfSn8btSqKtvZWfUjzcSRR-r4QeC3XOVvAah4p4ffS0wOogdqX09puw4JzBH_6E2YlH9hymFM7DY4NUHTfdqdHhtZ2avqIpBSJUgLtb5pFYbhWK/s1600/TBSLogogp.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I'm very proud to introduce to you <a href="http://www.blacksquirrelfabric.com/">The Black Squirrel</a>, a brick-and-mortar and online fabric, yarn, and craft supply boutique! It's been my lifelong dream to own a little craft shop and I've decided it's time to go for it! The shop will stock a variety of beautiful trendy yarns and fabrics, with a focus on sustainably and locally made items, as well as some handmade gifts and a rotating selection of craft supplies that will coincide with some of the awesome classes we will offer. The classroom space can also be used as a workspace for customers and as a gallery space for local artists. The overall design of the shop will be light, bright, and inviting, and I'm hoping it will become a creative hub for the crafting community in the Bay Area.<br />
<br />
I'm extremely excited, and also pretty intimidated, because in the new year I'll be launching a Kickstarter to fund it. I'm spending all my time setting up the campaign and anything I can think of for the business, but I'm going to need a lot of help from all my friends, family, and fans to get the word out about the Kickstarter once it's launched. You can head over to the new website, <a href="http://www.blacksquirrelfabric.com/">http://www.blacksquirrelfabric.com</a> and check out what I have been working on. There's nothing in the shop yet, that will have to come after the retail location has been established, but there is a super cute free baby cardigan knitting pattern over on the new blog:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.blacksquirrelfabric.com/blog/2014/11/20/twisted-stockinette-baby-cardigan"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAN0gF1iyK0fUDjl4q-t7zLLxNBShXfwnssfF6D9waXMv4ivcFEQLlev0GRMXcQsofCig2by49CmHRa0_8tkKd0_SDLKuA4Do5dlIxmTGz2_ojVwlbcn-XxuexKAaIaboqfkKY/s1600/edit13.jpg" height="400" width="397" /></a></div>
<br />
As well as a new free pattern for a chunky crochet set:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.blacksquirrelfabric.com/blog/2014/12/18/last-minute-christmas-gift-set"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpGysL785JB-P-FvPuhL4HIuSephTQP94yeeGxEvTueU__QyDjNLA9XRggAp8KqB5hMETKLHmUtwu0j3tCIZGCq-rr0La8L8h1y1MnXNhv1VcDCpZVeKiScvyQViux3teqa5AL/s1600/IMG_1130.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The really exciting part about this set-up process is getting to interact with so many people in the crafting community. I've been connecting with all my creative friends to collaborate on the rewards for my campaign (There's some really cool stuff!), and I've been communicating with the community at large to get their opinions on items to stock, shop design, and everything in between.<br />
<br />
Currently I'm looking for people who can help spread the word about the Kickstarter campaign when it's time to launch it. If you're interested in helping, please send me an email at blacksquirrelfabric@gmail.com and I'll add you to the mailing list. There will only be a couple newsletters about it, and mostly it's just asking people to share it across social media!<br />
<br />
Also if you're interested in voicing your opinion on the shop I'd love to hear what you have to say! You can head over to our new Facebook page at <a href="http://www.facebook.com/blacksquirrelfabric">http://www.facebook.com/blacksquirrelfabric</a>, like us, and be sure to turn notifications on so you'll get to see our posts. (I'm so annoyed by the way Facebook only shows your page posts to 7-10% of the people who like your page. Grrr.) I've been posting updates and questions on the page, as well as links to fun tutorials from all over the web that I think my readers would enjoy. Join in the conversations and tell me what you want to see!<br />
<br />
My Instagram and Pinterest accounts, which used to be under my Oh the Cuteness name, have been switched over to The Black Squirrel. If you're not already a follower you can now find them at <a href="http://www.instagram.com/blacksquirrelfabric">http://www.instagram.com/blacksquirrelfabric</a> (@blacksquirrelfabric) and <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/squirrelfabric">http://www.pinterest.com/squirrelfabric</a> (@squirrelfabric). I also set up a new Twitter account at <a href="http://www.twitter.com/squirrelfabric">http://www.twitter.com/squirrelfabric</a> (@squirrelfabric), and all of my Facebook updates are tweeted. If you'd like to speak with me directly with any questions, opinions, or ideas you can email me at blacksquirrelfabric@gmail.com.<br />
<br />
So you may be wondering, what does this mean for my handmade company and this blog? Fear not, because I also have some fun plans for Oh the Cuteness that will have to wait until the new shop is up and running, but they are exciting all the same. I'm planning on turning it into a handmade collective in the future, a place for my friends, who find trying to stock a whole Etsy shop on their own a little too daunting, to sell their beautiful handmade goods. The blog and Twitter will become part of the collective too, which means lots of new creative minds and more fun content! One of my big goals with my new business is to encourage more people to be creative and I think having a collective is another great step.<br />
<br />
So there you have it folks, and I hope you guys are as excited as I am! Please do contact me if you have any questions or comments at all, I'd love to hear from you! And stay tuned for more updates!Chase Clarkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09975617373410577449noreply@blogger.com0Oakland, CA, USA37.8043637 -122.271113737.603596200000005 -122.5938372 38.0051312 -121.9483902tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14992202.post-5495554796100878182014-07-28T09:00:00.000-07:002014-07-28T09:00:05.561-07:00Shop Update: New lacy newborn baby bonnets and glitzy adult bike beanies are up for sale in my Etsy shop!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I wrote this pattern myself specifically for people who ride bikes. They fit really nicely under a bike helmet and they're very squishy and stretchy. The yarns have little gold filaments in them too for some extra sparkle! There's only one Autumn colored one left so don't miss out!</div>

My best friend's little girl turned two recently and she decided on an Alice in Wonderland theme for the party! My birthday present to her was to help with party decorations and sew her a little white apron to complete her Alice-esque look. I had a feeling it was going to be adorable so I took photos along the way and have made them into a tutorial for you guys! </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This apron tutorial is special in that you can adjust the size of the apron to fit the child you're making it for, and if you leave some extra fabric like I did you can rip a single seam and resew it to make the apron last even longer! Kids grow so fast, and it's silly to get rid of something handmade if there's an easy way to alter it to keep it useful! I hope you all enjoy this one!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><u><span style="font-size: large;">How to Make a Toddler Apron</span></u></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You'll Need:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1/2 a yard of white fabric</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2 yards of white eyelet lace trim</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3 yards of wide white satin or grosgrain ribbon</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
White thread</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Embellishment (optional)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. Cut a 12 inch wide strip that is the length of your fabric from selvedge to selvedge. Fold all the sides in 1/4 inch and press, then repeat to create a small rolled hem on all sides. Stitch the hems in place all the way around with a 3/16ths seam allowance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgslUaLuZlFAAW9v7-QY4INXVhfJoELPggfWBw6IcL4kJqy96jnv0leQPx7z29IlH06zWgZMtw5fxrYehQ_yednPp5JNbtGxvfVWgLxz3cTmd5LY44wLJu-eMpjuZ0ZqhdLpWj3/s1600/067.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgslUaLuZlFAAW9v7-QY4INXVhfJoELPggfWBw6IcL4kJqy96jnv0leQPx7z29IlH06zWgZMtw5fxrYehQ_yednPp5JNbtGxvfVWgLxz3cTmd5LY44wLJu-eMpjuZ0ZqhdLpWj3/s1600/067.JPG" height="298" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;">2. Cut your lace trim to the same length as your strip of fabric plus 1 inch. Fold and press the ends of the trim over by 1/4 inch and repeat, then stitch in place to make a nice rolled edge:</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXK7JEkdFxD1Pu8NRII9KJMhzmVUc41iVatZg_UIUAs907ZZb3Q-FJMgeJX0BdUvfr8VaDnXaQ0E5kTRHaq5ta-dOmPc2h9Ll5UF6T5EAN2wQkzqMzeBKrs5esdkD0kwt6rF5U/s1600/069.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXK7JEkdFxD1Pu8NRII9KJMhzmVUc41iVatZg_UIUAs907ZZb3Q-FJMgeJX0BdUvfr8VaDnXaQ0E5kTRHaq5ta-dOmPc2h9Ll5UF6T5EAN2wQkzqMzeBKrs5esdkD0kwt6rF5U/s1600/069.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3. Stitch the lace to the back side of the rectangle's long side. On the opposite long side, either machine or hand sew a loose running stitch all the way along, then pull the threads and gather the skirt until it has shrunk down to about 20 inches across. I like to start from the center and work outwards. Tie a knot at each end to keep the ruffles in place.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCz8z7bLkc4iebtY0iW1SqhKHXuLdhHUSHxnKXpi3tDSbVe4riLwNwZnOYCt-PZRRsSjVzkTpeqrUpi41oe-vM4ssCxwegwgAAbJgm4U1AWUoNCtGyttmlV_zVWPCA3tylwGR2/s1600/075.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCz8z7bLkc4iebtY0iW1SqhKHXuLdhHUSHxnKXpi3tDSbVe4riLwNwZnOYCt-PZRRsSjVzkTpeqrUpi41oe-vM4ssCxwegwgAAbJgm4U1AWUoNCtGyttmlV_zVWPCA3tylwGR2/s1600/075.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
4. Cut your length of ribbon in half, and trim the ends into nice V's so they don't fray. Find the center points of both the piece of ribbon and the gathered skirt and begin pinning them together, with the ribbon covering the row of stitching used to make the gathers. Sew with a 3/16ths allowance from one edge of the fabric to the other.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2rTGmfMBnnYeJFZxxfofvRtg9t_eoUqOWExGlRFtzQ7YpYL8lYbYmE0MkEx9hNAEW1MYiQS0KhfiVXcoUKXKJUO47S7XX7IiFV4nxMROtVCRxLJp1gr-ohPUZgr9CsAqpwlta/s1600/082-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2rTGmfMBnnYeJFZxxfofvRtg9t_eoUqOWExGlRFtzQ7YpYL8lYbYmE0MkEx9hNAEW1MYiQS0KhfiVXcoUKXKJUO47S7XX7IiFV4nxMROtVCRxLJp1gr-ohPUZgr9CsAqpwlta/s1600/082-001.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now, you could stop here and have a sweet little half-apron, but if you want the bodice here's what you do:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1. Cut a 12 x 12 inch square out of the remaining white fabric and make the 1/4 inch rolled hem on all sides just like you did for the skirt piece and press.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq6ggxC09K1M0tYRhaI4I_4PDd5tNGLbCEUMHO2cX_15wpsjOjVVC2tFLQ7v6II0kXF_2MMS9B34UXiCJPlebGCHd7JrjAewFRCTPL5sIIN5W8ahWDgViy7nzr3kAENnF-XJVw/s1600/072-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq6ggxC09K1M0tYRhaI4I_4PDd5tNGLbCEUMHO2cX_15wpsjOjVVC2tFLQ7v6II0kXF_2MMS9B34UXiCJPlebGCHd7JrjAewFRCTPL5sIIN5W8ahWDgViy7nzr3kAENnF-XJVw/s1600/072-001.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2. Cut your remaining length of ribbon in half and trim one end on each piece into the nice V's. Take your square of fabric and open up the last of the rolled hems you just pinned. Lay the cut end of the ribbon against the raw edge of the fabric and refold the hem. Pin in place with the ribbons trailing off the top of the fabric:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM575f7V_tviVEl7yg0HdZVmLFqmb4c68PbrmInT0nDmewlRGxciBT1vmFkGKESYUjOe_cXMdlZwsv5ifJ-6wX1m5t7dNbuoERZSuezPf51vq_e3RGPfOuB5lkezSVxUhmJDEN/s1600/089.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM575f7V_tviVEl7yg0HdZVmLFqmb4c68PbrmInT0nDmewlRGxciBT1vmFkGKESYUjOe_cXMdlZwsv5ifJ-6wX1m5t7dNbuoERZSuezPf51vq_e3RGPfOuB5lkezSVxUhmJDEN/s1600/089.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Here's what it looks like on the front:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoR3Tohp4SRkV4m_xfZlftZw4FWxtJEu95ipiJ5SuAu7omKE8wEY9NEMEfcrCDW7IsG8rYr8-2wm7tDilfChT4gWI-AaxS7xlM-iai5Fhrijd-7UMhRjEwlY_7dpwvbxYQNJeP/s1600/091-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoR3Tohp4SRkV4m_xfZlftZw4FWxtJEu95ipiJ5SuAu7omKE8wEY9NEMEfcrCDW7IsG8rYr8-2wm7tDilfChT4gWI-AaxS7xlM-iai5Fhrijd-7UMhRjEwlY_7dpwvbxYQNJeP/s1600/091-001.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
3. Cut two 10 inch pieces of lace trim and roll the edges as you did for the skirt, and stitch the rolled hems in place. Pin the lace along the outer edge of the ribbon ties, starting at the top of the fabric. Repeat on the opposite side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggAddTFOFTgRdEyCeN0EMyVhdjjRwcnOdO68LeiN6aqRlF6GQKF_pNd5rJAfwaiK8vM1hS82p_fVLxLfDfBCfsk-50GUfZpN99-WC04TLxZgpqvZ5IZN7vDNSeFsLF-SV7NwDg/s1600/093-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggAddTFOFTgRdEyCeN0EMyVhdjjRwcnOdO68LeiN6aqRlF6GQKF_pNd5rJAfwaiK8vM1hS82p_fVLxLfDfBCfsk-50GUfZpN99-WC04TLxZgpqvZ5IZN7vDNSeFsLF-SV7NwDg/s1600/093-001.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
4. With a 3/16th seam allowance, stitch all the way from the bottom of the fabric to the end of the lace trim.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnGFj6gtJecRZmb3UxRe23zuJuj4WDBC8jmuayy2sJsGTrWbAroAPh1tLhEQlYufpRrokbigf8O9MPdfnGtjasSt93cR_cRmt8Xg7NLBRMRiyflOIo0QGPqoT6x1WcIY29y4MG/s1600/096-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgnGFj6gtJecRZmb3UxRe23zuJuj4WDBC8jmuayy2sJsGTrWbAroAPh1tLhEQlYufpRrokbigf8O9MPdfnGtjasSt93cR_cRmt8Xg7NLBRMRiyflOIo0QGPqoT6x1WcIY29y4MG/s1600/096-001.JPG" height="400" width="297" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
5. Finish sewing down the top and bottom rolled hems. This leaves you with a nice bodice piece that can be as long or as short as needed to fit the child properly.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM274JkZ8rnrlSM8RB33a_OjerfvzEUyOm4LD61pTsGilY0DiGe8pNF8PE_mRlwm5dBzKU3LERUfgalITXO_6kRvC8VlymHthbaLR973KFbh0jjW3Ko9UGEUjpPRq0A9qhczrP/s1600/099-001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM274JkZ8rnrlSM8RB33a_OjerfvzEUyOm4LD61pTsGilY0DiGe8pNF8PE_mRlwm5dBzKU3LERUfgalITXO_6kRvC8VlymHthbaLR973KFbh0jjW3Ko9UGEUjpPRq0A9qhczrP/s1600/099-001.JPG" height="400" width="298" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
6. Layer the bodice behind the skirt and, with the skirt at waist level, decide how far up you want the bodice to come. Pin it in place and sew the two pieces together from one edge of the bodice to the other. There will be an extra length of fabric with finished edges hanging behind the apron's skirt. As the child grows taller, the seam connecting the bodice and skirt together can be ripped out and the fabric of the bodice can be moved higher and resewn to help prolong the life of the apron!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Hi everyone! Alexandra and I are very excited to share our new recipe for baked cronuts today! Truth be told, neither of us have had the opportunity to try an actual cronut. They sound amazing but as if a regular fried piece of dough wasn't bad enough, adding a million layers of butter inside sounds like overkill. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But the idea of a tender, flaky piece of baked puff pastry dressed up like a donut sounded just right, especially if it incorporated some seasonal fruit, and so our baked cronuts were born! You can make either of the two flavors, but we found our favorite was stuffing everything into one huge, hard-to-eat monstrosity of awesomeness. There's no photos of that scene, but you get the idea...</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
First, assemble your ingredients:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 package Dufour Classic Puff Pastry (one sheet will make about 12 cronuts)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 roll of marzipan, finely chopped into crumbles</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A pint of ripe cherries, pitted and cut into eighths</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
8 oz. tub of marscarpone cheese</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
1 cup plus 2 tbsp powdered sugar</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Zest and juice of 1 lemon</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
2 tbsp milk</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Tiny bit of flour for keeping pastry from sticking</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Sprinkles!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNj6Kuq0MZ_ocYxf8VcVNuPyLHB_bxWRagkmLV9DAAZ1k6qNV96kNcmIc3s6i5stSyYz_nBRC3fWTL2nC2JuF0QIRPulze85jHa1iO8uQgFe0wYLGXfcBoOtHm3sPGTgATNa-c/s1600/IMG_0747.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNj6Kuq0MZ_ocYxf8VcVNuPyLHB_bxWRagkmLV9DAAZ1k6qNV96kNcmIc3s6i5stSyYz_nBRC3fWTL2nC2JuF0QIRPulze85jHa1iO8uQgFe0wYLGXfcBoOtHm3sPGTgATNa-c/s1600/IMG_0747.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Allow your sheet of puff pastry to thaw completely before unfolding it onto a sheet of parchment paper sprinkled with a little flour, then use small and large cookie cutters to cut out your donut shapes. We used a cute scalloped one, but round, or even hearts or squares, would be cute too. We also saved our scraps and baked them up separately to munch on later with leftover glaze and toppings!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjywEBAK9lX6hUKz6S9DoU9ly51BTVld-F9KVaQnqRZtPb7eP11_ZWDEoVzi103SYxsJXM4CSmfF5eN2qNeaUGqvDb6o81QHM669-uVk_6qNQLxaNZRSC5bokQrxjv7GmgB-UvS/s1600/IMG_0767.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjywEBAK9lX6hUKz6S9DoU9ly51BTVld-F9KVaQnqRZtPb7eP11_ZWDEoVzi103SYxsJXM4CSmfF5eN2qNeaUGqvDb6o81QHM669-uVk_6qNQLxaNZRSC5bokQrxjv7GmgB-UvS/s1600/IMG_0767.JPG" height="400" width="285" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Transfer your sheet of parchment to a cookie sheet and spread the rings out. Brush each one generously with melted butter. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, until firm to the touch and nicely browned. If they deflate as they cool then they need to be baked a teensy bit longer.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4cCRqt365kQYndFDj_JqL9agGb-woua4k7cfwNc9-nP3M9uRutCIN_EkweHhUk4pt1gC55sH9T_NB0F_cuM9XPsq4qhI0BnNkIojBX5-TNHhenJsuBJonB8s-nrgHz-oHZMCI/s1600/IMG_0793.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4cCRqt365kQYndFDj_JqL9agGb-woua4k7cfwNc9-nP3M9uRutCIN_EkweHhUk4pt1gC55sH9T_NB0F_cuM9XPsq4qhI0BnNkIojBX5-TNHhenJsuBJonB8s-nrgHz-oHZMCI/s1600/IMG_0793.JPG" height="286" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
While they're baking you can whip up the glazes, fillings, and toppings. If you want to make the lemon glazed version, start by combining the tub of marzipan with two tablespoons of powdered sugar. When they're well mixed, spoon it into a baggie and clip the corner for piping, or use a pastry bag fitted with a large round tip.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlnH-ytD1vJxpn3OWmxoeMF4qND5_Td5AjKVI_TR1lhURZjpjPzFeExS5NPYdsmfgqutEe6aIKHpPXKRSHQwUxGYFx5d4H4SKHNqE2ydLgvaA_kSahk1CounGMFMN2W9Kh3xfO/s1600/IMG_0819.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlnH-ytD1vJxpn3OWmxoeMF4qND5_Td5AjKVI_TR1lhURZjpjPzFeExS5NPYdsmfgqutEe6aIKHpPXKRSHQwUxGYFx5d4H4SKHNqE2ydLgvaA_kSahk1CounGMFMN2W9Kh3xfO/s1600/IMG_0819.JPG" height="286" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When your baked cronuts have cooled, slice them in half very carefully with a good serrated knife. Use a sawing motion without applying too much pressure to keep them from crumbling. Pipe a generous amount of the sweetened marscarpone filling into the bottom half of the pastry.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhD2PVuGLMvH__PM-jfjF4xeb1g-d9i0qJ5hSNa2mL6OSaZlVcqbz7RqghGlQ8qxqCuONOESxkDD_PxIdYLlCugpD99c3WvaMHullHl8We48la1PGLf6DTz7jwP_q-WqvULckk0/s1600/IMG_0825.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhD2PVuGLMvH__PM-jfjF4xeb1g-d9i0qJ5hSNa2mL6OSaZlVcqbz7RqghGlQ8qxqCuONOESxkDD_PxIdYLlCugpD99c3WvaMHullHl8We48la1PGLf6DTz7jwP_q-WqvULckk0/s1600/IMG_0825.JPG" height="285" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To make the lemon glaze, combine 1/2 a cup powdered sugar with the zest and juice of a lemon, adding the juice slowly while stirring until the glaze is relatively runny. If the juice wasn't quite enough liquid to make the glaze thin, add a tiny bit of milk to achieve the right consistency. Dip the top half of the cronut into the glaze and sandwich it with the filled bottom half and immediately apply your sprinkles so they stick:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
If you want to make the cherry and marzipan version, make a plain glaze by combining the remaining 1/2 cup powdered sugar with a tiny bit of lemon juice and about a tablespoon of milk to achieve a runny consistency. Dip the top of a whole baked cronut into the glaze and top with the cherry slices and crumbled marzipan and enjoy! And if you want to be truly decadent, stuff a glazed cronut with the cherries, marzipan, and marscarpone all together and chow down... You know you want to.</div>

There's a ton of new cute items up <a href="http://ohthecuteness.etsy.com/">for sale in my Etsy shop</a> this week! These herb and spice filled trivets, <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2014/03/JOAT-March.html">which I talked about making for a craft fair</a>, are finally listed in the shop!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As are these wonderful vintage button art pieces I made. I've been collecting vintage buttons my entire life and I'm so happy to have these special ones out of the jars and on display! The one in the top middle is sold, and the center one is mine, but the rest are in the shop waiting for new homes! I've also listed a framing option for them if you want yours to arrive nicely framed!</div>

I started making it because some time soon we hope to get a small flock of chickens for the backyard, and I wanted a nice wrap to wear while I sit on the swing and let them roam around for a couple hours each day. I needed something that would hit at the elbow so I could knit while wearing it and this came out just perfect!</div>

<a href="http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/2013/2/23/amazing-seed-stitch-wrap.html" style="text-align: start;">I used this pattern from the Purl Bee blog</a><span style="text-align: start;">, cast on the 109 stitches with my size 8 vintage straight needles, and used all the balls of Sugar'n Cream I had in my stash plus a couple more coordinating shades. I decided I would just knit till the ball ran out and that's how I got the wonky stripes. Possibly my favorite thing about my version is that, while Purl's version was made with a different, very expensive cashmere yarn, mine cost about $20 in yarn. I didn't want it to take forever </span><i style="text-align: start;">and</i><span style="text-align: start;"> cost a fortune, it had to be one or the other for me.</span></div>

When I was done I had mostly tiny scraps of all the colors left, but I knit from a big cone of the cream, so I decided to make a baby hat to match the wrap. I can see it turning into a nursing cover in the future and I thought having a little hat to match would be too cute!</div>

<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/irresisitible-dots-infant-set---hat">I used a pattern that I found on Ravelry</a>, but I feel like I ended up with a few too many straight rows. If I could do it over I'd remove the first stripe of cream stockinette altogether and start with the blue stripe right after the seed stitch brim so it would be a little shorter. But I really love it all the same, and I may try blocking it a bit but rolling the brim is also an option. Into the hope chest it goes! And into my cuddly wrap I go...</div>

A simple pattern with stunning results, it's large enough for an adult lap quilt as well!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This quilt is a very special one to me, it's the one that I am tucking away into the hope chest for the hypothetical someday baby. I think my maternal clock must have started ticking in the past year or so because <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2013/09/moon-and-stars-baby-bonnet.html">I seem to be making and squirreling away quite a lot of goodies</a> that I normally would have sold on Etsy. Johnny and I have a thing for moons, and when we found <a href="http://www.hawthornethreads.com/fabric/designer/lizzy_house/constellations">Lizzy House's Moon Phase Polkadot fabric</a> I knew I had to make a quilt. I had some other vaguely-moon-invoking prints in my stash and they looked lovely together! Here is the simple tutorial for this quilt's design, any novice quilter could whip this one up in a weekend or so without too much fuss.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-size: large;">How to Make a Moon Phase Quilt:</span></b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Finished dimensions, about 42x45 inches.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You'll need 1/4 yards of 4 different coordinating materials, and 1/2 a yard of a 5th material</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 yard of cotton needle punch weight batting</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1.5 yards of a backing fabric if you plan on making your own bias tape -or-</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 yard of backing fabric and 5 yards of coordinating bias tape</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Coordinating cotton thread</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc2ky7UudZBM4RDDc73cHR-DL2kAZ0xio3RCM412X-_kfyLTt9QHPQhgVhK4N6qXEQu_y8ZDiKnxTTZsOn03v9V7IOKttfpeEHcLVabNTdOCDihukwGgdAmDC_P-gsY1nvciP-/s1600/IMG_8833.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc2ky7UudZBM4RDDc73cHR-DL2kAZ0xio3RCM412X-_kfyLTt9QHPQhgVhK4N6qXEQu_y8ZDiKnxTTZsOn03v9V7IOKttfpeEHcLVabNTdOCDihukwGgdAmDC_P-gsY1nvciP-/s1600/IMG_8833.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you get your pieces cut in 1/4 yards from the fabric shop it saves some time, since you will want to cut them in half lengthwise to get 2 4.5 inch wide strips from each quarter yard. Also cut the 1/2 yard piece into 3 such strips.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoK868zN01TQOb6WWr7dCq8ObxctQeTfW3IuLmb1zii4jpsv5PpA5FWHrklRcNSt1c_MbwtEEkF15OESZrtrmLB1GApeHl8Idkb884W6EUBzfiD283y1kpLYqv2k0k1wZ6t3gD/s1600/IMG_8838.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjoK868zN01TQOb6WWr7dCq8ObxctQeTfW3IuLmb1zii4jpsv5PpA5FWHrklRcNSt1c_MbwtEEkF15OESZrtrmLB1GApeHl8Idkb884W6EUBzfiD283y1kpLYqv2k0k1wZ6t3gD/s1600/IMG_8838.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You want to arrange the fabrics so that the first strip and last strip match, 2nd and 2nd to last match, etc, with the pattern meeting in the middle with a single strip to echo the phases of the moon. I chose to use a fabric already in the quilt for the single middle strip because it was my favorite, but you could also use a completely unique piece.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDX4R_0rNJ3la7mDzanV3P9N8fed-Xnkh7ROl5L-aI1maMFriSPV-oFxt2mNT_4z29pCWLTB8NbJCTMRvDGKu5QGYKnygZMW3yPGoluAYKwL1oMt3tDGQ2YzrJguGOFPBPIslO/s1600/IMG_8842.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDX4R_0rNJ3la7mDzanV3P9N8fed-Xnkh7ROl5L-aI1maMFriSPV-oFxt2mNT_4z29pCWLTB8NbJCTMRvDGKu5QGYKnygZMW3yPGoluAYKwL1oMt3tDGQ2YzrJguGOFPBPIslO/s1600/IMG_8842.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Stitch the strips, right sides together lengthwise, in the order you have them laid out. Use a 1/4 inch seam allowance so the strips will be 4 inches wide when sewn. Press the seams flat when you're done.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDndIsEIMpSydcOKYK5FwtRN-3aVVS8MgYMzSKP2mV-QgU3itLM6HXpW7IOKO0JTNdOibix3d7oTsS6GqYEbYV9QDsCOlc3bwH7rXHZRnqelt_WKdxlVia9mg8OwM7BjwJKH2r/s1600/IMG_8846.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDndIsEIMpSydcOKYK5FwtRN-3aVVS8MgYMzSKP2mV-QgU3itLM6HXpW7IOKO0JTNdOibix3d7oTsS6GqYEbYV9QDsCOlc3bwH7rXHZRnqelt_WKdxlVia9mg8OwM7BjwJKH2r/s1600/IMG_8846.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now you'll need some space to lay down and smooth out the backing fabric (wrong side up if it has one), then the batting, then the quilt front right side up. Trim the bottom and batting to be relatively even with a little extra overhang, but don't worry about making it perfect as there will be some shifting as you quilt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmdNSTdEveWk3YEy3ohbJqOWf1O6AtlCru98d6ANOnAdNO82xEzrbKAKpZDbqxXoT3GiBDEhCQrWw3QfOlAO9kgXiSGyyeYNvwe_2BItC_a3CCHkcOabbxBCCXj45HIFLLbBzC/s1600/IMG_8853.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmdNSTdEveWk3YEy3ohbJqOWf1O6AtlCru98d6ANOnAdNO82xEzrbKAKpZDbqxXoT3GiBDEhCQrWw3QfOlAO9kgXiSGyyeYNvwe_2BItC_a3CCHkcOabbxBCCXj45HIFLLbBzC/s1600/IMG_8853.JPG" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I like to use giant safety pins, which can be found with the quilting supplies at any craft store, to keep all my layers together as I quilt. Working with regular pins and trying to roll up a quilt to fit it under the arm of a sewing machine is risky business, and basting is too tedious for my tastes.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihyDAvf5wPnD-sdifL_0hKj2Q0KtH4T9hfw5WqR7qjFjL3JaM5eakhopsP_3v-Q9iXqFEPs4MMHNYLp7Oasaku_R4P9_6CJPbtRpRu2r0wGmLHjuffKgV8sqrUTm8XtojT-5lE/s1600/IMG_8859.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihyDAvf5wPnD-sdifL_0hKj2Q0KtH4T9hfw5WqR7qjFjL3JaM5eakhopsP_3v-Q9iXqFEPs4MMHNYLp7Oasaku_R4P9_6CJPbtRpRu2r0wGmLHjuffKgV8sqrUTm8XtojT-5lE/s1600/IMG_8859.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now comes the fun part! For your first bit of quilting be sure you've got a walking foot on your machine and sew down along the seams between the strips of fabric. This is known as "in the ditch" quilting. You can't easily measure this, so just eyeball it as you go.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWxOY7IRtt4Pt7ilo-g2BxChFKhSugNv_Hc8EC79jAMs3r-1fe8oM6BOFW-q8th_UHUm92ZgGIWxAMvr5CKPj30QPpZyxsUR_ILP6JiRPIT3zwa2Qy67eCC5JF7iKj8Cw9K7Aw/s1600/IMG_8865.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWxOY7IRtt4Pt7ilo-g2BxChFKhSugNv_Hc8EC79jAMs3r-1fe8oM6BOFW-q8th_UHUm92ZgGIWxAMvr5CKPj30QPpZyxsUR_ILP6JiRPIT3zwa2Qy67eCC5JF7iKj8Cw9K7Aw/s1600/IMG_8865.JPG" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you're in a terrible hurry you could just stop here and add the binding and it would still be a lovely quilt, but I prefer to add the next bit of quilting:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Using your walking foot's guide arm, set it to 2 inches out and line it up with the seam you just quilted over so you'll be sewing down the center of each strip. Quilt all of them this way:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs2t11O8WrEAORmHZUO4I-ODejTxCZ8bb19x_-gQsdNFQruS_8xRwV4z6TLQGpCm55dfoyHmWn1ZfWQUzEBGE6jNZP7RwkpYBfLsvYXafyXckvTuFuzyT1XFriStM-cpwu69OP/s1600/IMG_8879.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhs2t11O8WrEAORmHZUO4I-ODejTxCZ8bb19x_-gQsdNFQruS_8xRwV4z6TLQGpCm55dfoyHmWn1ZfWQUzEBGE6jNZP7RwkpYBfLsvYXafyXckvTuFuzyT1XFriStM-cpwu69OP/s1600/IMG_8879.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All done quilting! Trim any excess fabric around the quilt top so you get a nice even edge for binding.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH3VqdCb1wyyRScBJeQjUgFv6CYp9PVdUyAwt0O35OoyARwmyXRUQN-wPZV_I1oFnBH7EUjnQMrKfdV_YXWyt_IaN4sShqWp6wkExRbGpq7iHtRd7vMZPs2wca2B6xxRVmkl6Z/s1600/IMG_8844.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgH3VqdCb1wyyRScBJeQjUgFv6CYp9PVdUyAwt0O35OoyARwmyXRUQN-wPZV_I1oFnBH7EUjnQMrKfdV_YXWyt_IaN4sShqWp6wkExRbGpq7iHtRd7vMZPs2wca2B6xxRVmkl6Z/s1600/IMG_8844.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I always make my own bias tape, though for solid colored fabrics I usually don't cut the strips on the bias. For this quilt I cut 4" strips from my backing material and I didn't even feel the need to iron the giant strip in half, though for first-timers it would make it a bit easier. <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2012/05/how-to-quilt.html">If you've never made your own and want to try it, check out my tutorial on how to quilt and scroll down to see my method.</a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia-jR3srECthfAO7VARq_qQjNgZpNd0TrkSWK-I31Qah-nYxXZrYyfWVlC_jrqwLKZmNvX832UoYRVMSZWafpTxNnGhUQ7CcXT9O5EEpIWgQFi-8shyphenhyphenGYfrKF2m13DKVXowsp-/s1600/IMG_8883.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia-jR3srECthfAO7VARq_qQjNgZpNd0TrkSWK-I31Qah-nYxXZrYyfWVlC_jrqwLKZmNvX832UoYRVMSZWafpTxNnGhUQ7CcXT9O5EEpIWgQFi-8shyphenhyphenGYfrKF2m13DKVXowsp-/s1600/IMG_8883.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now line up the raw edges of the bias tape and the quilt, and using a 1/2 inch seam allowance, stitch them together with a regular presser foot on the machine. <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2012/05/how-to-quilt.html">See my how to quilt tutorial for my method on starting, finishing, and making mitered corners for your quilt binding.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJqY0-YKQ83MKAVkJeCHcLe6JR-3EjuqjuuZO5Y7lnXUiqxEhq86l1aF74FxLd9QUo6fztcyJhwwiRWx36uG0tHeUjKOp3fEb1693UeubeBRC3vr1mPGeMUUdlLQVROzvqimB2/s1600/IMG_0673.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJqY0-YKQ83MKAVkJeCHcLe6JR-3EjuqjuuZO5Y7lnXUiqxEhq86l1aF74FxLd9QUo6fztcyJhwwiRWx36uG0tHeUjKOp3fEb1693UeubeBRC3vr1mPGeMUUdlLQVROzvqimB2/s1600/IMG_0673.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now, using the method I linked to above, fold your bias tape over the edge and hand-stitch it in place using a blind stitch. This is my favorite part of quilt making!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNKb-nnhDj-eHmYkqvfhpm2LH_x7itaUuY3dUUjiuv51TvaK_NjFNcRjaumRacHUdO-IeD7-4JX1pJ7I554zC69y6bCNt8G7G3XY7jvAOpwO8HWUjVVoSU9JqonmShOpAmyptx/s1600/IMG_0677.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNKb-nnhDj-eHmYkqvfhpm2LH_x7itaUuY3dUUjiuv51TvaK_NjFNcRjaumRacHUdO-IeD7-4JX1pJ7I554zC69y6bCNt8G7G3XY7jvAOpwO8HWUjVVoSU9JqonmShOpAmyptx/s1600/IMG_0677.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I don't like to pre-shrink my fabrics because I love the wrinkles quilts get after years of use, and if you're the same way then when you're done sewing go throw it in a hot washer and dryer. So cuddly!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-NoNk-swtX85hc3m0UnTYuii1pGZ49p8qWLoOvlFDBjjjSIXCq9qDHN9WR1xobTNtBQ-cECYtE1Ot59sfKG2nLtyEIWDe6gXPShv8Jk6mjHsqHVO4cNDjH7QQzYlgMsfDCzcq/s1600/IMG_0724.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-NoNk-swtX85hc3m0UnTYuii1pGZ49p8qWLoOvlFDBjjjSIXCq9qDHN9WR1xobTNtBQ-cECYtE1Ot59sfKG2nLtyEIWDe6gXPShv8Jk6mjHsqHVO4cNDjH7QQzYlgMsfDCzcq/s1600/IMG_0724.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And there you have it! If you end up using this pattern I'd love to see what you make! You can leave me a comment here or go ahead and <a href="https://www.flickr.com/groups/ohthecuteness/">share your photos on my Oh the Cuteness Flickr group!</a></div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I was invited this past Sunday to a wonderful pre-Easter brunch at my fabulous friend Alex's new little cottage home. Included in the invite was the phrase "Bonus points for bunny costumes." Now, most of you know I'm not one to pass up an opportunity to be in costume so I decided to make a smashing pair of bunny ears to wear to the fete, and they turned out so well I thought I'd write a little tutorial! These would be great to make with kids, as they could make the pom poms, and cut and color their own ears, though an adult should do the hot glue step.</div>
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-vPQ0Sw-IPlBcIVR0pnFCkutdjVUOv-ag7B562eghPjHchToqhVu4m_BoULW7s_12Frnh_U57A68jydJ3ZSkrX62bHthXGS5j6ADVPKO6ja2eCUeXzbWS7X51xL7djZl4hpT2/s1600/169.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-vPQ0Sw-IPlBcIVR0pnFCkutdjVUOv-ag7B562eghPjHchToqhVu4m_BoULW7s_12Frnh_U57A68jydJ3ZSkrX62bHthXGS5j6ADVPKO6ja2eCUeXzbWS7X51xL7djZl4hpT2/s1600/169.JPG" height="478" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
And as it turns out, Alex was the only other person who wore bunny ears, and hers were so different yet uncannily similar to mine that we had to partner up! Her version of lop-ears are very quick and easy, and endlessly charming, and you can scroll down to find the tutorial. So which kind of bunny are you? (By the way, no, this is not the cover of our indie-French-pop album. Model faces for the win.)<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>How to Make a Pom Pom Easter Bunny Crown:</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You'll need floral wire, white felt, a pink sharpie, a hot glue gun, scrap yarn, and either a cardboard or plastic pom pom maker.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcI6azNIq8Ey0-eilyfY_3pT-_shJZg75ujwXlT8u9274JOznbt2_ZU1Vz6UT9iAgen5oAycNQL2powdD6rwpmZri58x5m2nsRq6H_5ry8RZa0jqgx0tLJuFCyU4fIISUlWwOf/s1600/054.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcI6azNIq8Ey0-eilyfY_3pT-_shJZg75ujwXlT8u9274JOznbt2_ZU1Vz6UT9iAgen5oAycNQL2powdD6rwpmZri58x5m2nsRq6H_5ry8RZa0jqgx0tLJuFCyU4fIISUlWwOf/s1600/054.JPG" height="298" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First, take some nice thread wrapped floral wire and form it into a circle. One piece usually will work for a child's size, while I needed two for my crown. To close the loop, simply bend the ends back about 1/2 an inch at right angles to each other and hook together. The single link on the child's crown can be covered with long pieces of ribbon if you want it to be extra fancy!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj0u_Tu9Lg-hroPlsyB3vN4LtvR42Y28-rPqiM7lEm5I-fyJle6dWGORrMQlxEZANLXYSXt6ViNhCwy3nVOdwx74DsLqm-xWP-Pua0ImZKzSfLxVPTRK1Sn-0mxLbdn-vuQzZF/s1600/057.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgj0u_Tu9Lg-hroPlsyB3vN4LtvR42Y28-rPqiM7lEm5I-fyJle6dWGORrMQlxEZANLXYSXt6ViNhCwy3nVOdwx74DsLqm-xWP-Pua0ImZKzSfLxVPTRK1Sn-0mxLbdn-vuQzZF/s1600/057.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next, you'll need to make your pom poms. For the kid's crown you'll need 4-5 smaller diameter (1-2 inch diameter), and for the adults you'll need 6 larger diameter ones. There's lots of different methods you can use to make a pom pom, <a href="http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Pom-Pom">some of which you can find here</a>, but I highly recommend getting a pom pom maker from Clover. It rules my world!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
While making pom poms, experiment with different color placements and combos. This is a great way to use up pretty pastel yarn scraps!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRk7m2sBPq7mMPU8TAKeGDAuVIsodonIJblGsG29b-l3Rdf1tbc2PveBo3z6lSzDZ1AgD83sT62FTZ_HuGIn3wzS_Lww4APL-0lqqDpjTvcGwNPREFb63ubyl8HEZs5uwwIY4s/s1600/058.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRk7m2sBPq7mMPU8TAKeGDAuVIsodonIJblGsG29b-l3Rdf1tbc2PveBo3z6lSzDZ1AgD83sT62FTZ_HuGIn3wzS_Lww4APL-0lqqDpjTvcGwNPREFb63ubyl8HEZs5uwwIY4s/s1600/058.JPG" height="298" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now take a piece of felt that's about 4x6 inches and fold it in half lengthwise, and cut out a freehand bunny ear shape. Cutting through both layers at once makes them match!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3_G50AAaHIN20Rewi-nOHpkDhotV9HaO_4QugZX0EXArcu7Yx2SRPKZQQSG77tRSxTnbt60qpM021wCw8tpCoc7Tx0D1IHDEG0vVTvdXTQlFpsb3i0YocbXX1WDXqOWAdyJk4/s1600/059.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3_G50AAaHIN20Rewi-nOHpkDhotV9HaO_4QugZX0EXArcu7Yx2SRPKZQQSG77tRSxTnbt60qpM021wCw8tpCoc7Tx0D1IHDEG0vVTvdXTQlFpsb3i0YocbXX1WDXqOWAdyJk4/s1600/059.JPG" height="298" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now take your pink sharpie and draw the pink centers. Use the side of the marker with long light strokes.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq3-QaaxVnQlLhrbL_R-OaJzFRcrxHef5icZOUk90yigLw99q-GaqeMis1IfGpv2LRKy_fgLOfHx7GgiyY_XF_eUzMRuh5VHCl8xgMuxRfMcqFzaX4WgKXU11MqbwsRorWMtVf/s1600/060.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgq3-QaaxVnQlLhrbL_R-OaJzFRcrxHef5icZOUk90yigLw99q-GaqeMis1IfGpv2LRKy_fgLOfHx7GgiyY_XF_eUzMRuh5VHCl8xgMuxRfMcqFzaX4WgKXU11MqbwsRorWMtVf/s1600/060.JPG" height="400" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now, to attach your ears for the child's version, fold them in half at the flat bottom, set them on the interior of the ring of wire and fold about 1/2 an inch up, encasing the wire, and use hot glue to both keep the ear in place and keep it folded. It helps to mark with a pencil where you want the ears to be while you fit the wire ring to the child's head.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
For the adult version, stick the fold of the ear into the hook of wire and fold over and glue for extra stability. Check out the photos above and below:</div>
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Tada! This is fun all on its own, but it gets extra magical when you add the pom poms!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrDvaap0hYqVpoACkHII3gh3w-q-N8jzzH5tSaosG5_V-Vbj_Zi3_hJcQPR8MO2zU3BTGNAT4g552wmgJ2c-LPDbqyMg0pb5qCRlvu5_K4BbsSwxfZyVSTX7cp3EB7KOm0_92q/s1600/065.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrDvaap0hYqVpoACkHII3gh3w-q-N8jzzH5tSaosG5_V-Vbj_Zi3_hJcQPR8MO2zU3BTGNAT4g552wmgJ2c-LPDbqyMg0pb5qCRlvu5_K4BbsSwxfZyVSTX7cp3EB7KOm0_92q/s1600/065.JPG" height="400" width="298" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Grab one of your trimmed pom poms and gently spread apart the yarn until you find the center where you tied it together...</div>

<u>How-To: Last-Minute Lop-Eared Bunny Headband</u><br />
<u><br /></u>
These ears are a lot of things: quick (10 minutes tops!), cheap, no-sew, no-glue, *and* the headband stays intact for everyday wear! <br />
<br />
I've always been a fan of lops - lop-eared rabbits that is. Their droopiness and floppiness (and perceived mopiness) contrasts so precisely with their pert and alert erect-eared brethren, and appeals to my sensibilities very much.<br />
<u><br /></u>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZBcTQA9V5U02fv-3zoVjNJdq6488Z1wfixMYAzIPtOkavOOXQ9HTztTVJUtzUvwN7v9Q5Ir9GwAsYoHjy2cQWAtVwJCS-ksi4axJlB5bJd8wKNTvCLovY_uOgUzeruNPcdBA2rw/s1600/Photo.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZBcTQA9V5U02fv-3zoVjNJdq6488Z1wfixMYAzIPtOkavOOXQ9HTztTVJUtzUvwN7v9Q5Ir9GwAsYoHjy2cQWAtVwJCS-ksi4axJlB5bJd8wKNTvCLovY_uOgUzeruNPcdBA2rw/s1600/Photo.jpg" height="640" width="526" /></a></div>
<u><br /></u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You'll need...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Felt (just one little 9" x 12" rectangle of craft felt will do!), headband, scissors, blush + blush brush<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKSKY5sscj9inuDJvpDl5CdOL3jgFVaZJPHMhTPw2tjUMW2CheHMm607VZVibBJupnrNMpApFMGo7otsrNYBVYkrFcg0KIYRa3DPSlOe8rprWcUUkAmwxxOqd4Vnv1BX_YhzniOg/s1600/Materials.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKSKY5sscj9inuDJvpDl5CdOL3jgFVaZJPHMhTPw2tjUMW2CheHMm607VZVibBJupnrNMpApFMGo7otsrNYBVYkrFcg0KIYRa3DPSlOe8rprWcUUkAmwxxOqd4Vnv1BX_YhzniOg/s1600/Materials.jpg" height="250" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First, you'll need to cut out your ears. Now don't get thrown for a loop here - I used two pieces of felt to make two pairs simultaneously. You truly don't need a template, just cut out the ears long ways utilizing as much of the felt as possible. Leave the bottom inch and a half straight-sided; this will form the tab that loops around the headband. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd7U3TXemx9LoUFn7auAqBNra_61cEbRD-yADrpZobWGInlLtbqyQG_b4uXLK5sAbyEX94oj49nzx0BmDD8DfqS6hAPQWUdXdBaBFEwK1ndovdPzKHROSLO22GXp17owagHrxo_A/s1600/Cut.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd7U3TXemx9LoUFn7auAqBNra_61cEbRD-yADrpZobWGInlLtbqyQG_b4uXLK5sAbyEX94oj49nzx0BmDD8DfqS6hAPQWUdXdBaBFEwK1ndovdPzKHROSLO22GXp17owagHrxo_A/s1600/Cut.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Secondly, you'll need to cut a wee slot, about 3/4 of a an inch long, centered on that straight-sided tab at the base of each ear (don't get too close to the edge or the felt may tear!).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXBXVZI0lJuQCmG2tfTxptCnVvmKDEjHmAW8CAeZf7Wr78dLGrECAoEsVTMDzDGFxSDeGsuNiCB4SpRrWSG3eRI7ZZEzY_WH-ChzwVjOu9xxtSKcJemxEadpDcbhu_WFP9SAFiug/s1600/Slot.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXBXVZI0lJuQCmG2tfTxptCnVvmKDEjHmAW8CAeZf7Wr78dLGrECAoEsVTMDzDGFxSDeGsuNiCB4SpRrWSG3eRI7ZZEzY_WH-ChzwVjOu9xxtSKcJemxEadpDcbhu_WFP9SAFiug/s1600/Slot.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Next comes the fun part: blushing (the idea of which comes from Miranda's sweet bunny ear DIY over at <a href="http://www.onelittleminuteblog.com/2011/04/diy-no-sew-bunny-ears/">one little minute</a>). A warm, peachy reddish-pink works best here. Concentrate the color at the base then drag it upwards in light strokes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOHGE_lw02aAYqnDBy7X7vmr0NfJIXUT66w_UklKcu9l_JbRMZ0TlG6isBJyL4Eg7sYKlQ-bHplrrxBIgg8uZOOZRbqvIQt00iduyRgSo_jzrtG7-Lv_UPjFeNOp4k4JP9loII7Q/s1600/blush.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOHGE_lw02aAYqnDBy7X7vmr0NfJIXUT66w_UklKcu9l_JbRMZ0TlG6isBJyL4Eg7sYKlQ-bHplrrxBIgg8uZOOZRbqvIQt00iduyRgSo_jzrtG7-Lv_UPjFeNOp4k4JP9loII7Q/s1600/blush.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To attach the ears to the headband, simply loop them from behind, fold them in half towards the front (blush side in), and gently pull them through the slot until they're snugly secure. A headband with little teeth or at least some texture works best to hold the ears in place (but once it's on, your hair will do that just fine). You can also move them around as you see fit - lop ears tend to be wider set than their pert counterparts.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWL-isbvP_fUWr3iQGB21M-_HivRTyIgkuGAJlUn-8mt7PJdErEOa9NpYdWyMRcYPGnmZW7Lv0H82lrge4eE_IWhXRrGSfnRwyO4BFINyhIUP1YolyV_qs_SuN2SZ5g6eUmiTyug/s1600/PullThrough.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWL-isbvP_fUWr3iQGB21M-_HivRTyIgkuGAJlUn-8mt7PJdErEOa9NpYdWyMRcYPGnmZW7Lv0H82lrge4eE_IWhXRrGSfnRwyO4BFINyhIUP1YolyV_qs_SuN2SZ5g6eUmiTyug/s1600/PullThrough.jpg" height="400" width="382" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Snip the corners off the little tabs (rounded if you can manage it) to make them less noticeable from behind...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs6E93m7UHDS-B7sk9QUKIdHyMLunDq7MPqmYO8tfK5Fjyk42BGH-bgbxVJyySbK2Vpw45FQokwcbNic0fysgaNCNgq6kZLTJmX6A51N21tBZTD3VIueVDURFBRrSCNN1q8WFFmQ/s1600/Snip.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgs6E93m7UHDS-B7sk9QUKIdHyMLunDq7MPqmYO8tfK5Fjyk42BGH-bgbxVJyySbK2Vpw45FQokwcbNic0fysgaNCNgq6kZLTJmX6A51N21tBZTD3VIueVDURFBRrSCNN1q8WFFmQ/s1600/Snip.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
...and there you have it! A nice little pair of lopped ears, for you or your smalls! Furthermore, it just occurred to me that should you prefer upright bunny ears, a once-over with spray starch should do the trick!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I finally managed to mount this collage that's been in the works for ages. I call it "Alexandra", and it's huge, about 25 inches across.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used to do collages a lot more and never documented any of them, which are now sold or given to people who aren't in my life anymore. No more of that!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You'd be surprised how many magazine clippings I have in flat files even though I haven't finished a piece since about 2008. I'm hoping this is the beginning of more works like this.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUNuyiPmz9kx8V_1O1EQbT8vvzUFQCkbbnV6A7TslsDMP22frLAsnnd-UyzaU3MBSfnF8GtJePfisjoAP3rXd5dPi5-PKD2_4ztbP2mKcMDj8oBrivn7ZZAhKGuhnl4z28EANP/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiUNuyiPmz9kx8V_1O1EQbT8vvzUFQCkbbnV6A7TslsDMP22frLAsnnd-UyzaU3MBSfnF8GtJePfisjoAP3rXd5dPi5-PKD2_4ztbP2mKcMDj8oBrivn7ZZAhKGuhnl4z28EANP/s1600/007.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I use ephemera from time to time, but most of my papers come from magazines and catalogs, and I especially like using advertisements because they're a bit collage-y already, and when you take them out of context things start to get weird. Most people who see my work can't tell where the mash-ups done by me and the ones cut straight from the magazine begin or end. I also like to leave little bits unglued so they pop off the page. The girl in the tree has free floating hair, and both of them have free legs dangling from the branch.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hope you guys like it.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also, if you don't have a smartphone fear not! You can still participate in all my sales by going to my actual Instagram webpage at http://www.instagram.com/ohthecuteness!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've been doing some major destashing in the craft room lately, mostly because I want to make room for some new supplies. And to help buffer my budget for these new supplies, I'm selling off all of the full cuts of fabric I don't foresee using in the near future. It's mostly quilting cottons, with a few canvas and flannel prints thrown in, and it will all be going up for sale on my Instagram tonight at 5 p.m.!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.intagram.com/ohthecuteness">Head on over to my Instagram and be sure to follow me</a> so you won't miss a single piece of all the lovely fabric I'll be selling for super cheap! I may have to spread the sale out into 2 or 3 evenings, but I'll happily hold shipments until the entire sale is done so I can ship multiple pieces together. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
To buy them all you have to do is be the first one to leave a comment with your email and zip code under the photo of the fabric you want. You'll get a PayPal invoice in he morning for the total plus a little shipping. Hope to see you all there!</div>

<span style="font-size: x-small;">Many thanks to my friend Nadine over at <a href="http://birdyboutiquephotography.blogspot.com/">Birdy Boutique Photography</a> for this little snapshot, what a cutie!</span></div>
<br />
First, a little back story about this pattern: I was able to take some time to go visit my family recently and had such a wonderful time. My mother always inspires me to be creative because she is so full of great ideas! Her craft cabinet is in the guest room and when I woke up the first morning I saw this, and had to stumble around like a zombie to get my camera and snap a picture:<br />

<i>What amazing colors,</i> was the first thing I thought when I opened my eyes. When I was more awake I pulled the yarn out of the cabinet and took a picture so I could remember the scheme and go buy some when I got home.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLhMPTrXR1B13KPsczR_mDpDDkF8e8ItYrYws83kbh8JiLzt7h_mj1XeyPqJh0Rd53NXnKHlMLw0eJOw41b0YjD2yKp0kfx1Ucol7Pjk9wteMFdx__GMHfqvYYq3Hv5xEEMqEa/s1600/IMG_2785.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLhMPTrXR1B13KPsczR_mDpDDkF8e8ItYrYws83kbh8JiLzt7h_mj1XeyPqJh0Rd53NXnKHlMLw0eJOw41b0YjD2yKp0kfx1Ucol7Pjk9wteMFdx__GMHfqvYYq3Hv5xEEMqEa/s1600/IMG_2785.JPG" height="220" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I just loved those colors and had to make something with them! Long story short mom ended up giving the yarn to me right then and there, and I had my hooks with me (Never leave home without them!), so I just started in on a baby blanket while we were hanging out. I finished the last row at my Stitch 'n Bitch group when I got home, so it really only took two days and would make a great weekend project.<br />

Now, I know the grey yarn is acrylic while the rest are cotton, but Sugar 'n Cream never seems to make good greys. I just went with it and unless the person looking at it knows something about yarn no one will notice because it's made on such a big hook lol. I love this color scheme, but if you're looking for something different I suggest you check out the <a href="http://color-collective.blogspot.com/">Color Collective Blog</a>, they have awesome color scheme inspiration! Here's what you need to make your own:</div>

<br />
I finished Johnny's cowl and hat with plenty of time to spare before Valentine's Day, and I'm sure glad I did because he only got to wear them a couple times before this unseasonably warm weather set in. Sorry it took me so long to get him to pose for a shoot lol! <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2014/02/more-manly-knits.html">Info on the patterns and yarns used can be found in my previous post, here.</a><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We were both really happy with how these pieces turned out! Like I said in <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2014/01/valentines-day-approaches.html">the original post about the cowl</a>, he chose the patterns and yarns himself, and I think that makes him really excited to wear them. I adore the hat, especially the textural stitch pattern and the beautiful way it's decreased on top. I have to admit I've been stealing it to wear myself here and there. Even though he may have to wait till next winter to wear them, he says it's the best Valentine's Day gift ever. Daww.</div>

And holy cow look at what he made me! He's been whittling since Christmas now and this is by far the coolest thing he's made to date. He knows how much I love anatomical hearts and this one is amazing, just look at that lovely paint job too! Putting it under glass was a great touch, and now it lives on our fireplace mantel.<br />

Lovely earth-toned wool yarns are steadily being knit into fashionable accessories for my man!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A big shipment of yarn arrived at our house! Johnny has been picking out patterns from Ravelry and, with a little help from me, has been buying the loveliest yarns to go with them! Above is <a href="http://astore.amazon.com/ohthecut-20/detail/B002FRDFY4">a leftover Rowan skein from his cowl</a> (Which is finished, photos coming in a few days!), that will be turned into a toddler version of the same pattern and put in the hope chest. <a href="http://astore.amazon.com/ohthecut-20/detail/B00466EOBU">The two dark Patons skeins</a> are for the socks below, and he got me<a href="http://astore.amazon.com/ohthecut-20/detail/B00ANC0Y24"> the minty one on the bottom</a> just because he likes me. I'm thinking about a slouchy folded-brim hat with a big pom pom on the end, anyone know of any good patterns?</div>

I've actually already started on the hat. I love this stitch pattern and would adore a sweater made of it! The yarn, like his cowl's yarn, is <a href="http://astore.amazon.com/ohthecut-20/detail/B009EI00Z4">Rowan, but a lighter version called Creative Focus Worsted</a>, with the opposite coloration. I cast on and am going to seam the hat in the yarn used for his cowl so he can wear them as a matched set! Also, we're kind of nerding out about how his cowl was called "The Hemingway" and now his hat is called "The Emerson"! And now on to Java and Beer... Quelle coincidence!</div>

My spoils from a fantastic de-stash bash and a proposed trade?<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My friend and knitting guru Suzanne had a birthday party recently that carried the theme of "Share Your Craft", and she teamed up with another Stitch 'n Bitch member to also make it a de-stash party. I brought a bag of fabric and miscellaneous crafting goodies to give, but I had no idea how much other people were bringing! Needless to say, I came home with a LOT of yarn, fabric, and knitting needles! I don't have any plans for the ones above, but I'd love some one-skein project ideas from you guys!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The big pile of Fjord is going to become a lap blanket for Johnny, and I'm not sure what I'll do with the white and cream yarns yet.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also came home with these cute fabrics and colorful needles! But, I cleaned out my own needles and realized I have an extra pair of 11's and 3's, and I was wondering if anyone out in internet-land would fancy a trade?</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I really need a needle gauge, any kind will do! Since I have all these vintage plastic and aluminum double-pointed needles and I can't really be sure what size they are, does anyone have an extra gauge they want to trade for the needles above? You can comment here or email me at ohthecuteness@hotmail.com if you do!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I also snatched up this little beauty at the party! I think it's from the 70's, it's in great shape, and it had all these goodies inside! I'm not sure what the hook thingy in the very front of the photo is, anyone have any ideas? Maybe for a latch-hook rug?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_-OAl4wSFzRwTN-iVd6zkYVQA1Z1Vm3rkNoQXTkeISCBN5QLUs-qOtZEGLBzuPdJWSx6mEiVvx1q7VdM4QpjVzGeRAw0tCaLIeUjtk5nDj5zCzWW6n6ZeVjMn8ajnq4QkTva-/s1600/Photos,+etc-001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_-OAl4wSFzRwTN-iVd6zkYVQA1Z1Vm3rkNoQXTkeISCBN5QLUs-qOtZEGLBzuPdJWSx6mEiVvx1q7VdM4QpjVzGeRAw0tCaLIeUjtk5nDj5zCzWW6n6ZeVjMn8ajnq4QkTva-/s1600/Photos,+etc-001.jpg" height="285" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And this was also inside! It's the most beautiful packaging for needles I've ever seen! It's very old, and from Germany, and the bottom of the lion label is gilt and so lovely. I took the needles out and glued the tabs shut, and now it lives on the shelf above my desk! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Many thanks to everyone who brought yarn and other goodies, I'm so happy to have some new stuff to work with this year!</div>

Years in the making because of a busted sewing machine, it's turned out to be the best quilt yet!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOOJZKqVYXCCk5Y8fi4tCQALyRzbG0omdpWgX9a6q2qr2yGq1TKFjzsOBpWMgk5zTJ93hNoKM128hKUwskv1EVaP6_8bn3FTZIhho45g75D-urZwpATesajxj6AQjkIOH3t2BV/s1600/IMG_8913.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOOJZKqVYXCCk5Y8fi4tCQALyRzbG0omdpWgX9a6q2qr2yGq1TKFjzsOBpWMgk5zTJ93hNoKM128hKUwskv1EVaP6_8bn3FTZIhho45g75D-urZwpATesajxj6AQjkIOH3t2BV/s1600/IMG_8913.JPG" height="640" width="452" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2013/02/working-working-working.html">I mentioned this quilt in a post about this time last year</a>, and I'm so happy that it's finally done! There were a lot of trials and tribulations with this one, namely a bum old sewing machine that wasn't doing me any favors. I ended up going back and ripping out all of the quilting I had done on my old machine and redoing it properly with the walking foot on my new one, and I am so happy I did! And it took me forever to choose a binding, but I ended up finding a very subtle yellow and white chicken wire patterned piece that was perfect!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBlPwbGgV0CMP8GGPmB53his0dId0a7AT_RFWSxhzXRneq1WEJKhEnzVUVHuv4Y2iIFdCfvKZ5qdxekIHFVLLFDRYdtr_5YrnoFHJqDXqIg0E2TDrGjgZ4wTlRq9nv-MnABEBT/s1600/IMG_8917.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiBlPwbGgV0CMP8GGPmB53his0dId0a7AT_RFWSxhzXRneq1WEJKhEnzVUVHuv4Y2iIFdCfvKZ5qdxekIHFVLLFDRYdtr_5YrnoFHJqDXqIg0E2TDrGjgZ4wTlRq9nv-MnABEBT/s1600/IMG_8917.JPG" height="640" width="457" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The top and little pieced strip on the back are made entirely from recycled fabrics, mostly shirting weight samples form my fabric rep friend Ivy, along with some damaged vintage clothes that my mom cut up and saved for me (the red squares with white flowers and the pink squares with blue flowers for sure, but I forget which others). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I hand-cut all the squares instead of using a straight edge and a rotary cutter, because I wanted it to look just a little wonky and distinctly handmade. And the backing fabric is vintage with little wide-weave stripes wich makes it so soft! This is by far the softest, sweetest, most huggably adorable quilt I have ever made. My head might explode from cuteness if I ever see a real baby wrapped up in it!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here's the quilt pre-washing on the night I finished it. Nicholas is thinking "Ooh, something new for me to curl up on!" Sorry buddy, not going to happen.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgV0liOlaJfBSgraUNCVjyJ237IPmMGoaDL4Cpme6w5LM7hZS2pDdbyyDcibbpXEzoBwoseGF6cPOMHL36Q33ktqd0XuSuM-AqO-pjB5GJ-o7E-L6JPfq53t6BDHqtGr0KIi-A/s1600/IMG_8908.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgV0liOlaJfBSgraUNCVjyJ237IPmMGoaDL4Cpme6w5LM7hZS2pDdbyyDcibbpXEzoBwoseGF6cPOMHL36Q33ktqd0XuSuM-AqO-pjB5GJ-o7E-L6JPfq53t6BDHqtGr0KIi-A/s1600/IMG_8908.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As a matter of personal preference, I don't pre-wash any fabrics I intend to quilt with. This means that they shrink the first time you wash them, and it gives them that lovely wrinkly-soft quality that vintage heirloom quilts have from being washed for decades. So, above is how it would look if I had pre-washed my fabrics. And here's how it looks now, washed and dried and looking like it's been snuggled for years already:</div>

I was going to <a href="http://ohthecuteness.etsy.com/">list this little beauty in my etsy shop</a>, but a visitor to the craft room saw it and snatched it up straight away. I know it will be very happy and loved where it's going!</div>

Whip up something sweet for your sweetie. This is a great beginner's amigurumi pattern!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTdmJrupQuu02DGezaDFQjbkjLplzZSuYRoSunM-FvySmuFuk5ABessHO5LkbmcMpbUqOQXrcmamirrrChbFmGz3C2TfHtp9MXX114KQbCRb3ePxrH8nwCqdD10iSqZ1D7PufD/s1600/Photos,+etc.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTdmJrupQuu02DGezaDFQjbkjLplzZSuYRoSunM-FvySmuFuk5ABessHO5LkbmcMpbUqOQXrcmamirrrChbFmGz3C2TfHtp9MXX114KQbCRb3ePxrH8nwCqdD10iSqZ1D7PufD/s1600/Photos,+etc.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
When I started to crochet as an adult (I learned when I was 10 and quickly forgot until college), I learned how to make amigurumi first. The little cupcake on the bottom left was the 2nd creation I ever crocheted, and I still have him and love him to this day. The pattern was <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2005/08/more-evil-bunnies-and-not-so-evil.html">one of the first posts I ever made on this blog</a>, nearly a decade ago, but it has since disappeared from the net. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Looking back, I realize now that I didn't do some of the techniques right, but it still came out so nice that I made more and <a href="http://ohthecuteness.etsy.com/">sold them on my etsy shop</a> in the early years, and even figured out how to make a giant one for fun. I hope some of you will try this pattern if you've never tried amigurumi before, because it got me hooked (Ba-dum-bum-tsch!), and I hope it will work the same for you! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can leave it plain in earth tones for a muffin, or a red bottom looks like red velvet cake. My favorite thing to do was add seed beads for sprinkle "freckles" and little expressive eyes:</div>

I've finally decided to create a brand identity and new logo for Oh the Cuteness! Be on the lookout here and Etsy for new style changes!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcEVhEFtgGhceazRQeNokfk-MxQjH0F7pQxo6j8Rp4W3jstJP5hjANfqe3O9KaD77pK0lzVwqMTjwvwC_ntIUKrr139tmOnoK0UMRTLZA4bQAbi7EPw4-yh9n02OfJqd85GF9G/s1600/Instagram+brand.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcEVhEFtgGhceazRQeNokfk-MxQjH0F7pQxo6j8Rp4W3jstJP5hjANfqe3O9KaD77pK0lzVwqMTjwvwC_ntIUKrr139tmOnoK0UMRTLZA4bQAbi7EPw4-yh9n02OfJqd85GF9G/s1600/Instagram+brand.jpg" height="640" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
TADAAA!</div>
Guys, seriously, I am soooo excited to unveil my new branding identity! I'm complete crap with Photoshop, so my dear, sweet, wonderful, and endlessly patient boyfriend helped me (as in pretty much did everything) to create a new brand identity for Oh the Cuteness! It started with my rough sketch and color palette and evolved into the wonderful cohesive brand above! I can't wait until I have a chunk of time to sit down and implement all of these wonderful logos, fonts, buttons, and colors on the blog and shop. Not to mention new business cards, tags, labels, and a banner for the booth! But it will have to wait until this weekend as I've got a new retailer to make things for today, and a craft fair in Oakland this Saturday. If you happen to be in the area, be sure to stop by the Jack of All Trades market in Jack London Square and say hello!<br />
<br />
Also don't forget to <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2014/01/key-necklace-giveaway.html">go enter my Valentine's Day Giveaway!</a> Three winners will be chosen soon so hurry!Chase Clarkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09975617373410577449noreply@blogger.com1Campbell, CA, USA37.2871651 -121.949956837.236627600000006 -122.0306378 37.3377026 -121.8692758tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14992202.post-62528968511194975832014-01-27T13:12:00.000-08:002014-01-27T13:31:26.970-08:00Valentine's Day approaches... Handmade gifts, to me, are especially meaningful for a holiday that's all about the labor of love, so I'm knitting up something special!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq627WAcDN8LQKJiGLYC42VVjoKAc9jsT0X5P8WPWKZOf2lSEPHxUPMzavACXb15WyThmMU4ROai_xXDQQmfaRzuzxhj-3ERCcCmgyjXsCTXHAXOnhDgkVXhxREmXM40fHb8lh/s1600/IMG_8887.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhq627WAcDN8LQKJiGLYC42VVjoKAc9jsT0X5P8WPWKZOf2lSEPHxUPMzavACXb15WyThmMU4ROai_xXDQQmfaRzuzxhj-3ERCcCmgyjXsCTXHAXOnhDgkVXhxREmXM40fHb8lh/s1600/IMG_8887.JPG" height="285" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I know there's a lot of people out there that don't really like Valentine's Day for one reason or another. I, however, am not one of those people. I'll take any excuse to do something special, especially if it's for someone I love. When I was a kid I tended to make valentines for my classmates instead of buying the fold-and-tear variety, and it's a tradition that's carried over to my adult life: I'm knitting a little something special for Johnny this year. (Don't worry, he knows!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk7vB8N59QK8g1HvYBZ_3vn7xauAX9zjqg_laF4SzjUeMINF3FNGGGXjCnkRlhobX7ZP1voWc2Iz6xjaZl1ffd6tR7ou2Kfkkcv5Hf5XYwPokzjqiiMZUM0JAM4MiyUMsf3HrT/s1600/6a0120a8545b6a970b019b01d6399f970b-800wi.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk7vB8N59QK8g1HvYBZ_3vn7xauAX9zjqg_laF4SzjUeMINF3FNGGGXjCnkRlhobX7ZP1voWc2Iz6xjaZl1ffd6tR7ou2Kfkkcv5Hf5XYwPokzjqiiMZUM0JAM4MiyUMsf3HrT/s1600/6a0120a8545b6a970b019b01d6399f970b-800wi.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He found <a href="http://suskandbanoo.typepad.com/blog/2013/12/the-hemingway.html">this fantastic cowl, made buy Susk and Banoo</a>, on <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/ohthecuteness">my Pinterest</a> and asked me if I would make it for him. The moment I said yes he emailed me the link and bought the same yarn that was used for the one above! (Which, by the way, is <a href="http://astore.amazon.com/ohthecut-20/detail/B002FRDFY4">Rowan Cocoon in Mountain</a>. She used only 2 skeins and it looks like I'm going to need 3 to finish to the proper dimensions.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I can't help but swoon for a man that buys yarn and looks up his own patterns! Susk and Banoo called their version "The Hemingway", and it's made from <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/2012/11/1/lovely-ribbed-cowl.html">the Purl Bee's "Lovely Ribbed Cowl" pattern</a>. I'm very nearly done and we're both incredibly excited for him to wear it.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you've been <a href="http://www.instagram.com/ohthecuteness">following my Instagram</a>, you'll know that he's taken up whittling recently, and a little birdie told me that I am getting something very painstakingly hand-carved as my gift this year! And on the actual day we have plans to make each other simple embroidery floss friendship bracelets before we head off to a romantic dinner!<!--3--><!--3--><!--3--></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last year I made Johnny a piece of embroidered art, shown above on the bottom left. I used navy embroidery floss on an open-weave muslin with bits of my favorite vintage fabrics to freehand a Venn Diagram about us. I was inspired by <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1MbK-befg4">Lisa Hannigan's sweet song Venn Diagram</a> and I have some sketches for other graph-type designs to complete a series in the future.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Also, just a bit of news: <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2013/09/pattern-testers-needed.html">my first-ever baby cardigan pattern</a> is in the testing phase, so hopefully it will be available to buy very soon! I'd still be interested in taking on one more pattern tester, anyone want to volunteer?</div>

A lovely new fabric and design expo, designed to foster smaller local manufacturers.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkzh_W1lPhYAe-MKg8GiYFgo8ChzI_OxsFG4AD5RPcmiFqfzUe9aUlM7mSfXoCT8t6cM3h8gIZ7IADOsCjmOIcEATXI9E5v0JvAIfjfvy9wKUqILIdZ6oPL8eznVPaePc8zY_k/s1600/IMG_1602.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkzh_W1lPhYAe-MKg8GiYFgo8ChzI_OxsFG4AD5RPcmiFqfzUe9aUlM7mSfXoCT8t6cM3h8gIZ7IADOsCjmOIcEATXI9E5v0JvAIfjfvy9wKUqILIdZ6oPL8eznVPaePc8zY_k/s1600/IMG_1602.JPG" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had a wonderful opportunity before the holiday rush hit to help <a href="https://www.facebook.com/IvyMoyaFineFabrics">my friend Ivy, who works as a sales rep for Robert Kaufman Fabrics</a> (among others), with a new little trade show in San Francisco. <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2012/03/crazy-quilt.html">I've mentioned her before on here,</a> as the lovely lady who brings <a href="http://diyods.blogspot.com/2013/02/working-working-working.html">dead stock fabric swatches for quilting</a> to my stitch & bitch group to give away. (Thanks Ivy!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think I've mentioned on here that someday I'd like to open a little brick and mortar shop to sell fabric, craft supplies, and handmade gifts, and getting to go to some trade shows in the industry has been so fun! <a href="http://www.dgexpo.net/">This was the first-ever DG Expo</a>, and the response was so great that they are planning one for the east coast coming up and will definitely do the event annually here in the Bay Area. It wasn't s super huge event, but it was aimed at smaller independent manufacturers of fabric goods, and it was so fun to meet all the local designers who came to our booth.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1HLn8dmjoIYuAjuo-SgZUmrThHc8IGjIp04UPonG6_I7cSvUjetobN65UKPWkLzERth23O9aYrxvhl0KmMST2lFB_H7iVTtLrSIcviPvKm1YGXKN_m2UEQwuX-hrUhM5dLVTM/s1600/IMG_1557.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1HLn8dmjoIYuAjuo-SgZUmrThHc8IGjIp04UPonG6_I7cSvUjetobN65UKPWkLzERth23O9aYrxvhl0KmMST2lFB_H7iVTtLrSIcviPvKm1YGXKN_m2UEQwuX-hrUhM5dLVTM/s1600/IMG_1557.JPG" height="286" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And here's someone else that I got to meet: Ron Kaufman, the grandson of <i>the </i>Robert Kaufman. He's Ivy's boss (that's Ivy on the right), and was just an all-around super nice guy! The three of us had lots of fun hanging out in the booth and helping designers find the perfect fabrics for their projects.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhBEQFv2nH62RaUDN3KE-q5eGigMy1thy_k3UKBznCCBzFnGkHNZbxtsIDVI0PJaNsi4GUwrlcO_0FVg8IFek14YuTLM1esaLvrtwOzrn5oRn-Kty59BSL6QpJ57pO-M1bGEtg/s1600/IMG_1565.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhBEQFv2nH62RaUDN3KE-q5eGigMy1thy_k3UKBznCCBzFnGkHNZbxtsIDVI0PJaNsi4GUwrlcO_0FVg8IFek14YuTLM1esaLvrtwOzrn5oRn-Kty59BSL6QpJ57pO-M1bGEtg/s1600/IMG_1565.JPG" height="400" width="286" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Our space was small, so we just had room for this little bit of display, plus a banner on the other end, our table, and 2 racks of swatches. I got to take home a couple of the sample rolls of fabric, including a confetti chambray and red & white stripe twill, both of which will hopefully be turned into dresses soon!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As you can imagine, I spent my down time drooling over all the amazing fabrics in our booth! Everything was so cute, and now I'm dying to order some for projects, but I'm on a stash-busting run at the moment and it will have to wait.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh10MWH-xrnKpnrySIyaeuyx1ilwzIVgAiBXc3XggDHoC9gd23tK1ih__pd5WEMauFcRTZ0EkKoP3n0FF5JQzL02Cjwdh_3gEXSUvzn6bjJFEEEKQ1RKJAS8nokzwbugN9C3EPO/s1600/IMG_1568.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh10MWH-xrnKpnrySIyaeuyx1ilwzIVgAiBXc3XggDHoC9gd23tK1ih__pd5WEMauFcRTZ0EkKoP3n0FF5JQzL02Cjwdh_3gEXSUvzn6bjJFEEEKQ1RKJAS8nokzwbugN9C3EPO/s1600/IMG_1568.JPG" height="285" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And, of course, I got to wander about and look at all the other booths. There were $100/yd hand-stitched fabrics covered in tropical feathers, fine silks and cashmeres, beads, buttons, appliques, and millions of other delicious fiber goods. But, of course, <a href="http://storefront.unitednotions.com/storefrontCommerce/">Moda's booth caught my eye the most</a> with their array of cute prints. The 1930's umbrella prints above are just too sweet!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJNABa3BtM6D4Uk7GoTBYq9rJpAOEJ7655bO5nHrSCJUkvDjk7ZFG-8Ud52h6pvVwk4_vpZ8lHBiR4zOKQn_7YPtHeSer0-b7ECiExozWRMkbcvCHfYN637w6pmREOlq2qszb3/s1600/IMG_1570.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJNABa3BtM6D4Uk7GoTBYq9rJpAOEJ7655bO5nHrSCJUkvDjk7ZFG-8Ud52h6pvVwk4_vpZ8lHBiR4zOKQn_7YPtHeSer0-b7ECiExozWRMkbcvCHfYN637w6pmREOlq2qszb3/s1600/IMG_1570.JPG" height="400" width="285" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And look at this pre-quilted adorableness! Loooook at it!</div>
